Abstract: The invention relates to a hearing aid a cochlear implant comprising a) at least one input transducer for capturing incoming sound and for generating electric audio signals which represent frequency bands of the incoming sound, b) a sound processor which is configured to analyze and to process the electric audio signals, c) a transmitter that sends the processed electric audio signals, d) a receiver/stimulator, which receives the processed electric audio signals from the transmitter and converts the processed electric audio signals into electric pulses, e) an electrode array embedded in the cochlear comprising a number of electrodes for stimulating the cochlear nerve with said electric pulses, and f) a control unit configured to control the distribution of said electric pulses to the number of said electrodes. The control unit is configured to distribute said electric pulses to the number of said electrodes by applying one out of a plurality of different coding schemes, and wherein the applied coding scheme is selected according to characteristics of the incoming sound.

Abstract: To enable a patron of a venue attending a performance to feel as if he or she is ‘front and center’ even if located much farther away or angled from a stage of the venue, system and methods that enhance audio quality of audio signals especially over the voice frequency spectrum to generate a processed audio signal including an increased voice frequency spectrum are provided. The processed audio signal may be communicated to a receiving system with a headset or other transducer (e.g., loudspeakers) that allows for ambient sounds to be heard by a patron and for the patron to control volume of the processed audio signal, thereby mixing the processed audio signal with the ambient sounds. The receiving system may be rented and an operator may control usage for both performance or long-term rentals using various control features of the processed audio signals and/or receiving system.

Abstract: A set of signal measures is sent, wherein each signal measure in the set of signal measures corresponds to a respective audio signal received by a playback device in a media playback system and is processed based on a first set of audio processing algorithms. A plurality of signal measures is identified in the set of signal measures. Audio signals corresponding to the identified plurality of signal measures are processed by one or more devices in the media playback system to improve a signal measure of each of the audio signals. The audio signals are processed based on a second set of audio processing algorithms. The processed audio signals are combined into a combined audio signal.

Abstract: An audio encoding device and an audio decoding device are described herein. The audio encoding device may examine a set of audio channels/channel groups representing a piece of sound program content and produce a set of ducking values to associate with one of the channels/channel groups. During playback of the piece of sound program content, the ducking values may be applied to all other channels/channel groups. Application of these ducking values may cause (1) the reduction in dynamic range of ducked channels/channel groups and/or (2) movement of channels/channel groups in the sound field. This ducking may improve intelligibility of audio in the non-ducked channel/channel group. For instance, a narration channel/channel group may be more clearly heard by listeners through the use of selective ducking of other channels/channel groups during playback.

Abstract: A system and method for mitigating audio feedback may calculate a smoothed frequency spectrum of an audio signal. Previously detected candidate feedback tones may be obtained. Candidate feedback tones may be determined responsive to a frequency spectrum of the audio signal, the smoothed frequency spectrum and the previously detected candidate feedback tones. One or more signal characteristics associated with the audio signal and feedback coefficients associated with the candidate feedback tones may be obtained. The feedback coefficients may be modified responsive to the one or more signal characteristics. Actionable feedback tones may be determined responsive to the associated feedback coefficients exceeding a respective feedback threshold. Feedback suppression coefficients associated with each of the determined actionable feedback tones may be generated and may be utilized to suppress the actionable feedback tones.

Abstract: A unified communications system enables a user to simultaneously manage real time voice communication with background audio streams such as a music. In one embodiment, the system comprises a plurality of devices connected through a persistent voice over IP channel, where each device is playing background audio independently, and each device is operatively coupled to a microphone. When a connected user speaks, Voice Activity Detection results in the automatic adjustment of background audio on other connected devices, the adjustments based upon user-input settings on each device.

Abstract: A high intelligibility voice announcement system is described herein. One system includes an announcement station containing a speech to text engine in which a spoken announcement from a user is converted to text data, wherein any errors are identified and marked in the converted text data and displayed to the user. After the user has corrected any errors, the corrected text data is transmitted to one or more speakers, where a text to speech engine converts the text data to an audible message that is then broadcast via the speakers.

Abstract: A voice-activated computing device configured to transmit a pilot tone and then capture or receive a signal, which corresponds to the pilot tone, reflected from within the environment containing the voice-activated computing device. The voice-activated computing device, or some other computing system or device, analyzes the received signal in order to determine analyze one or more characteristics present within the signal, i.e. noise, echo, etc. Based upon the analysis, models for signal processing can be determined, selected and/or altered. Future signals received by the voice-activated computing device can be processed with such models. The analysis can also allow for the models to be dynamically updated and for models to be dynamically created.
