Abstract: Systems and films for protecting surfaces of various substrates, including electronic devices, such as portable electronic devices, include a liner with a strip liner and a main liner. The strip liner, which covers a small strip of adhesive on the back side of a protective film, is configured to be removed before the main liner. With the small strip of adhesive exposed, the protective film may be aligned with a substrate and, if necessary, removed from the substrates and repositioned thereon. Thereafter, the main liner may be removed to enable complete application of the protective film to the substrate. Methods for securing protective films to substrates are also disclosed.

Abstract: An accessory management system includes a first part which mates with a handheld electronic device. The first part includes a port to electrically connect an external device to the first part, a circuit board, a connector, and an accessory station configured to removably connect to an accessory item. The accessory station includes electrical contacts. The connector is configured to electronically or electrically connect to a port of the handheld electronic device and configured to transmit at least one of data and power between at least two of the following: the accessory management apparatus, the handheld electronic device, and the accessory item. The accessory item is independent from the first part and removably attaches to the first part. The electrical contacts are mounted proximate to the accessory item. The electrical contacts electrically connect the accessory item to either the first part or the handheld electronic device to transfer charging power.

Abstract: A system and apparatus for selectively limiting user control of a mobile electronic device are provided. In an embodiment, the apparatus may be a case sized to receive a mobile electronic device, the case having a locking means to at least partially secure an opening thereof. When engaged, the locking means may be physically impenetrable by the user of the mobile electronic device and may further be configured to engage and disengage in the presence of one or more pre-determined conditions. For example, the lock may engage when the case is detected within a certain geographical region or even during a specified time. It is contemplated that providing disclosed systems and apparatuses may reduce undesirable behavior at communal events by eliminating distractions posed by mobile electronic devices and preventing unauthorized recordings, which together may enhance overall engagement at and enjoyment of such events.

Abstract: New peripheral device cases and methods of use are provided. In some embodiments, specialized hardware for acquiring personal health data is provided within a smartphone case. In some such embodiments, a case with squeezable sections is provided, configured to monitor pressure applied by a user and record a user's grip strength. In some embodiments, optical sensors are provided which monitor and assess a user's behavior while extrapolating user statuses based on behavior. For example, a new form of transparent pixel array is provided over the screen of a smartphone held within a case, and records both visual data and user input related to the screen, while permitting normal actuation of the smartphone screen through the transparent pixel array. In some embodiments, data is secured and managed within separate computer hardware within a case, and shared with a smartphone held within it, and/or with a network, upon obtaining user consent.

Abstract: A portable device accessory includes an attachment mechanism, a hinge member, and a privacy shield. The attachment mechanism is for attaching the accessory to a rear face of the portable device. The rear face is opposite a front face of the portable device. The front face includes the screen of the portable device. The hinge member is pivotably attached to the attachment mechanism. The privacy shield is pivotably attached to the hinge member and movable between a storage position and a blocking position. When the privacy shield is in the blocking position, the privacy shield extends over the front face of the portable device and blocks at least a portion of the screen. When the privacy shield is in the storage position, the privacy shield extends over the rear face of the portable device and is positioned proximate to the attachment mechanism.
