摘要: Fluorophores or other indicators can be used to label and identify one or more defects in a graphene layer by localizing at the one or more defects and not at other areas of the graphene layer. A substrate having a surface at least partially covered by the graphene layer may be contacted with the fluorophore such that the fluorophore selectively binds with one or more areas of the surface of the underlying substrate exposed by the one or more defects. The one or more defects can be identified by exposing the substrate to radiation. A detected fluorescence response of the fluorophore to the radiation identifies the one or more defects.

摘要: The invention relates to a method and arrangement for determining the amount of starch used in surface-sizing a cellulose product. In the solution according to the invention, the amount of starch is determined with a transmission method utilizing IR spectroscopy by using absorption wavelengths of cellulose. Absorption values are measured before adding a coating and after it, whereby the amount of starch is determined from the difference between these absorption values.

摘要: Adhesive compositions useful for bonding fluorescent material-containing cellulosic substrates such as envelopes may be formulated using an adhesive polymer such as an emulsion of polyvinyl acetate in water and one or more compounds capable of reducing the degree of fluorescence exhibited by the substrate in areas of the substrate surface having the adhesive coated thereon. When irradiated by short wavelength light, the surface areas containing the adhesive coating appear darker than the surface areas that are free of adhesive, allowing quality control problems associated with application of the adhesive to be readily monitored and corrected. At the same time, however, the adhesive may be formulated such that the fluorescence-reducing compound does not alter the appearance of the adhesive coating when viewed under normal daylight conditions.

摘要: A method detects whether or not a workpiece is coated with a water-soluble protective film. The method includes a preparatory step before detection and a detecting step. The preparatory step includes irradiating with infrared light a first region coated with the water-soluble protective film and a second region not coated with the water-soluble protective film for a reference, receiving the reflected light, and thereby acquiring an intensity of reflection from the first region and an intensity of reflection from the second region; and a threshold determining step of determining a threshold from the intensity of reflection from the first region and the intensity of reflection from the second region at a wavenumber of 3000 cm−1 to 3600 cm−1. The detecting step includes irradiating a surface of the workpiece with the infrared light, receiving the reflected light, and comparing the thus obtained intensity of reflection with the threshold.

摘要: A non-destructive method is provided for determining the amount of a chromated conversion coating on a metallic substrate. A value of infrared energy reflected from the metallic substrate without the chromated conversion coating is determined. A value of infrared energy reflected from the metallic substrate with the chromated conversion coating is determined. A value of infrared energy absorbed in the chromated conversion coating is determined, and the value of the infrared energy absorbed in the chromated conversion coating is correlated to an amount of the chromated conversion coating.

摘要: A toner depositing amount measuring apparatus for measuring the amount of toner deposited on a photosensitive drum includes a light source for irradiating the surface of the photosensitive drum with light and a photoelectric converting section for receiving the reflected light and converting the received reflected light into an electric signal. A logarithmic calculation is applied to the output signal of the photoelectric converting section in a logarithm-compressing section. The temperature characteristics of the logarithm-compressing section are compensated for in a temperature compensating section. The amount of the toner deposition is calculated in a toner depositing amount calculating section based on a difference between the data during non-deposition of the toner and the data during deposition of the toner, the data being obtained from the logarithm-compressing section. Further, image forming conditions are changed in a control section in accordance with an output signal denoting the calculated deposition amount of the toner so as to control the density of the image formed.
