The device includes a base portion, an oscillator coupled to the base portion configured to vibrate the base portion, a first cantilevered beam coupled to the base portion at a proximal end and having a tip portion at a distal end, and a second cantilevered beam coupled to the base portion at a proximal end and having a tip portion at a distal end, each of the first and second cantilever beams further having a first plurality of fingers near the first tip portion inwardly pointing and a second plurality of fingers near the second tip portion inwardly pointing, respectively, such that the entirety of each cantilever beam is positioned in a side-by-side manner next to the entirety of the other forming substantially mirror images of one another, the first plurality of fingers interdigitating with the second plurality of fingers such that the first cantilevered beam and the second cantilevered beam can oscillate independent of each other, the interdigitating fingers separated by gaps that are configured to reflect light from the interdigitating fingers during oscillation of the first and second cantilevered beams to form a diffraction pattern.

    摘要: A method for measuring mass of a micro- and nano-sized particle. The method includes placing the micro- or nano-sized particle on a resonator having an oscillator and a first and second cantilevered arms with interdigitating finger, energizing the oscillator at a selective frequency thereby causing mechanical vibration in the first and second cantilevered arms, directing a light beam from a light source onto the interdigitating fingers, sensing intensity of light of the reflected diffraction pattern by at least one photodetector positioned about at least one of the modes, varying the frequency by sweeping a range of frequencies and correlating the sensed intensity to mass to thereby determine the mass of the micro- or nano-sized particle.

    摘要: In a load cell for a weighing machine, the load cell includes a vibrating beam force sensor clamped at its two ends to respective support parts of the load cell, and wherein each end of the sensor is clamped by a bolt having a head which traps the associated end of the sensor against a support part, the bolt having remote from its head a threaded portion engaged with a nut which tensions the bolt, and a portion of non-circular cross section having at least one cross sectional dimension which is greater than that of the threaded portion, the non-circular cross section portion of the bolt having been drawn through a hole in the support part which had a diameter less than said one cross sectional dimension. This reduces the production of forces parallel to the plane in which clamping is required.

    摘要: A mass and force meter comprising a frame, a load support, a digital evaluation and display device and two electrically-excited, transversely-vibrating, pre-tensioned strings each having one end fixed to the frame. The other ends of the strings are connected to a force distributor, and first and second transmission elements are provided for transmitting to the force distributor a pre-tensioning force and a force which depends on the load to be measured. One end of each of the transmission elements is fixed to the force distributor and the other ends are connected to the respective pre-tensioning and load forces. A guide member having one end connected to the frame and the other end connected to the force distributor acts together with the strings to guide the force distributor in a statically defined manner relative to the frame with respect to the pre-tensioning force and the force established by the load to be measured. Means are further provided for applying to the evaluation display device the resultant frequency variations caused by application of load to the strings thereby permitting measurement and display of the magnitude of the measured load.
