The invention relates to a method for parameterizing a software damper connected to a clutch control system for damping chatter vibrations of a clutch torque being transferred by means of an automated friction clutch which is controlled by the clutch control system by means of a target clutch torque and which is positioned between a combustion engine and a drivetrain of a motor vehicle, wherein the target clutch torque affected in specified operating states by chatter vibrations is corrected by means of the software damper, wherein a transfer behavior of a clutch torque transferred via the friction clutch on the basis of the target clutch torque is ascertained during a modulation of the target clutch torque and the software damper is parameterized with the help of the ascertained transfer behavior. In order to be able to parameterize the software damper quickly and comprehensively, the target clutch torque is modulated by means of a broadband excitation in a frequency range of the chatter vibrations, and the transfer behavior is ascertained depending on operating parameters of the drivetrain.

A system for controlling the engagement and disengagement of a viscous type coupling is accomplished by controlling the relative positioning of a spring loaded valve arm relative to a fluid port through the use of an electrically-activated, temperature-sensitive wire. The characteristics of wire are such that the wire is hard above a predetermined temperature, but soft and ductile below a predetermined temperature. When engagement or disengagement of the coupling is desired, electrical current is introduced through the wire, therein heating the wire above a predetermined temperature to harden the wire. This hardening causes the valve arm to either move to either cover or uncover a fluid port, depending upon the design arrangement of the valve arm relative to the fluid port. A controller coupled to a plurality of engine operating sensors and a power source controls the electrical activation as a function of a desired operating condition.

A method of monitoring a torque transmission system with a manually switchable gearbox in the power train of a motor vehicle involves the utilization of at least one sensor unit at the input side of the torque transmission system to ascertain relevant positions of the shift lever of the gearbox and the driving torque of the engine of the motor vehicle. The thus obtained shift lever signals are memorized, together with comparison signals which are obtained as a result of filtering of the shift lever signals, and various characteristics of such signals are recognized and identified to indicate the intention of the operator of the vehicle regarding the switching of the gearbox. The thus obtained switching intention signals are transmitted to a controlled clutch operating system.

A method for operating a vehicle drive train comprising a drive unit, a transmission, and an all-wheel splitter having a clutch. The all-wheel splitter is positioned between the transmission and the output and splits a transmission output torque to vary the torque distribution to driven axles of the output. The split of the output torque to the driven axles is performed by a control unit in such a way that the transmission output torque, less a predetermined nominal torque set by the all-wheel drive strategy, is transferred to a first axle while the nominal torque is transferred to a second axle. When defined operating conditions are met, a clutch monitoring function is activated and the nominal torque is replaced by a torque definition of the clutch monitoring function so that the torque which is transferred by clutch to the second driven axle, is increased, then kept constant, and thereafter reduced.
