    摘要: Ethylene glycol is prepared from a carbohydrate source in a process, wherein hydrogen, the carbohydrate source, a liquid diluent and a catalyst system are provided as reactants into a reaction zone; wherein the catalyst system comprises a tungsten compound and at least one hydrogenolysis metal selected from the noble metals Pd, Pt, Ru, Rh, Ir and combinations thereof; wherein the carbohydrate source is introduced into the reaction zone such that in the reaction zone the concentration of the carbohydrate source in the diluent is at least 4% wt, calculated as weight of carbohydrate source per weight of diluent; wherein the amount of the at least one hydrogenolysis metal selected from the noble metals Pd, Pt, Ru, Rh, Ir and combinations thereof ranges from 0.2 to 1.0% wt, calculated as the metal and based on the amount of carbohydrate source introduced into the reaction zone; wherein the molar ratio of tungsten to the at least one hydrogenolysis metal is in the range of 1 to 25; and wherein the carbohydrate source is reacted with hydrogen in the presence of the catalyst system to yield an ethylene glycol-containing product.

    摘要: Unsaturated alcohol compositions are obtained by reducing a metathesis-derived hydrocarbyl unsaturated ester. Also disclosed is a process for preparing an unsaturated alcohol composition, where a metathesis derived hydrocarbyl carbonyl compound is reacted in the presence of a silane compound, an organic solvent, and a catalyst system prepared from a metallic complex and a reducing agent. This mixture is then hydrolyzed with a metallic base, and then mixed with organic solvent. The resultant mixture is then separated, washed, dried, and/or purified to produce the unsaturated alcohol composition. The unsaturated alcohol derivatives are useful in many end-use applications, including, for example, lubricants, functional fluids, fuels, functional additives for such lubricants, functional fluids and fuels, plasticizers, asphalt additives, friction reducing agents, plastics, and adhesives.

    摘要: An improved process for extracting fusel alcohols and/or fusel alcohol esters from an ethanol fermentation product involves adding to the fermentation product an extractant solvent selected from amyl alcohols, amyl acetates, and mixtures thereof to produce a two-phase system including a water and alcohol phase, and an immiscible second phase comprised of amyl alcohols, amyl acetates or a mixture thereof. Thereafter, the first and second phases can be separated to obtain a first phase depleted of fusel alcohols and/or esters of fusel alcohols and a second phase containing fusel alcohols and/or esters of fusel alcohols extracted from the first phase.

    摘要: A membrane-integrated hydration reactor that is operable to produce an associated alcohol product from an olefin using water includes a solid acid olefin hydration catalyst in a production zone and a hydrophilic membrane operable to selectively permit pervaporation of water one-way and not permit pervaporation of the associated alcohol or permeation of the olefin at olefin hydration process conditions in a separations zone. The production zone is operable to form a production zone product mixture made of the associated alcohol and any unreacted water. The associated separations zone is operable to form and produce both the associated alcohol product and a pervaporated water product from the production zone product mixture. A method of olefin hydration for forming an associated alcohol product from an olefin using water uses the membrane-integrated hydration reactor at olefin hydration process conditions.
