Abstract: An integrated, modular system for direct air capture (DAC) and electro-microbial production (EMP) for bioelectrochemical conversion of CO2 comprises (a) a solid absorbent configured to directly capture CO2 from air; (b) a first bioreactor configured to receive enriched and purified CO2 from the absorbent and convert the CO2 to an upgradeable organic carbon intermediate by an autotrophic microorganism, wherein the autotrophic organism derives energy from oxidation of electrochemically-generated reducing equivalents; and (c) a second bioreactor configured to receive the organic carbon intermediate from the first bioreactor for use as a feedstock by a metabolically engineered microorganism to generate a value added product.

Abstract: The invention provides for the optimal utilization of gas by a fermentation process, whereby the various components within the gas stream are separated to increase the efficiency of the microorganisms. The invention is capable of tailoring the composition of the gas being used by the fermentation process so as to enhance the production of various products. The invention is capable of applying such controlled separation and utilization of gas to produce different products in two fermentation processes in series. The invention is also capable of applying such controlled separation and utilization of gas to produce one product in a first fermentation process, which may be converted to a different product in a second fermentation process. The invention is additionally capable of mitigating culture inhibition.

Abstract: Provided is a carbon monoxide (CO) dehydrogenase with increased oxygen resistance and/or enzyme activity, specifically, a mutant CO dehydrogenase with increased oxygen resistance and/or enzyme activity by mutating amino acid residues. The CO dehydrogenase may detoxify toxic carbon monoxide at room temperature and pressure by easily oxidizing carbon monoxide and converting the same into carbon dioxide, and may effectively oxidize carbon monoxide even in gas including oxygen. Furthermore, since it is possible to remove carbon monoxide, which is emitted in large quantities in industries such as petrochemical and steel industries, cigarette burning, household cooking, various boilers, and combustion, through cigarette filters, air purifiers, intake filters in household cooking equipment, gas boilers, etc. the CO dehydrogenase may be utilized in various ways.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a control method for a process to convert bisulphide to elemental sulphur in an aqueous solution comprising sulphide-oxidising bacteria wherein the process is controlled by applying a potential between the anode electrode and the cathode electrode or between the anode electrode and the reference electrode of an electrochemical cell resulting in a current between the cathode electrode and the anode electrode, measuring a current as measured by an electrochemical cell and adapting the process in response to the measured current. The process to convert bisulphide may comprise the following steps: (a) contacting bisulphide with oxidised sulphide-oxidising bacteria in the aqueous solution and elemental sulphur, (b) oxidizing the reduced sulphide-oxidising bacteria, (c) using the oxidised sulphide-oxidising bacteria obtained in step (b) in step (a) and (d) isolating elemental sulphur from the aqueous solution obtained in step (a) and/or step (b).
