This propulsion unit for an aquatic vehicle consists of a mobile casing mounted in a pivot connection in relation to a hull element of the aquatic vehicle, a drive shaft of a propeller, said shaft being mounted rotatably within the mobile casing by means of at least one bearing consisting of a closed space adapted to be filled with a hydraulic fluid, an electrical machine being adapted to drive the rotary drive shaft in relation to the mobile casing, where the propulsion unit further consists of a module for conditioning the hydraulic fluid contained in the closed space of the bearing. The propulsion unit also consists of a control device to control the conditioning, the control device consisting of a temperature sensor and capable of activating the conditioning of the hydraulic fluid contained in the closed space according to the temperature measured by the temperature sensor.
Abstract:
A propeller shaft of a marine vessel is supported by bearing means within a stern tube or frame. The stern tube or frame has an aft end provided with a sealing assembly for sealing the propeller shaft. The sealing assembly and the stern tube or frame have at least one leakage monitor line for monitoring the condition of the sealing assembly. The at least one leakage monitor line is provided with a circumferentially extending channel section.

Abstract:
A seal arrangement for sealing around a rotating shaft that passes through a ship bulkhead includes an expandible and contractible seal ring made of several seal ring segments, and radial actuators that engage the seal ring segments and can be power-activated, e.g. with a pressure medium, to pull the seal ring segments radially outwardly, thereby expanding the seal ring to a larger diameter spaced away from the shaft. When the radial actuators are not activated, the biasing force of springs contracts the seal ring segments to a smaller diameter, to establish sealing contact of the seal ring on the shaft. In normal operation a control unit activates the actuators, but if sensors detect a power failure or water in the ship, or a manual switching is triggered, then the seal arrangement contracts under spring force into the sealing condition with the seal rings sealing against the shaft.

Abstract:
A seal pressure vent system for a waterjet propulsion apparatus including a water intake section and a pumping unit. The pumping unit is designed such that in operation the seal pressure vent system provides a fluidic path for the flow of high pressure water away from a lip seal assembly toward a near ambient pressure region. The seal vent system includes a plurality of fluid passageways formed in a stator structure in conjunction with a water barrier ring, a tail cone including an extended flange, or a modified stator web structure.
