摘要: A polishing method and a polishing film are provided for automatically performing multi-stage batch polishing on an end surface of a workpiece. An end surface of a workpiece and a polishing plate are moved relative to each other while bringing the end surface of the workpiece into contact with a polishing film of the polishing plate. The end surface is moved in a circular motion with a diameter 2 R relative to the polishing film; the center of the circular motion is moved linearly by a distance S on the polishing film; the polishing film is provided with first, second, and third polishing surfaces; and the polishing film is further provided with cleaning surfaces between the polishing surfaces so that the range of the distance S in which one rotation in the circular motion crosses over different polishing surfaces is reduced, or does not cross over different polishing surfaces.

摘要: A device for finishing a workpiece includes two pressing elements and a holding apparatus for holding the pressing elements. A finishing band is pressable against a workpiece surface to be finished. A flexurally resilient intermediate element is disposed so as to transmit a pressing force to the finishing band by means of a force-receiving surface and by means of a force-transmitting surface. The intermediate element or a plurality of them is configured to transmit pressing forces, which are offset relative to one another in a circumferential direction of the workpiece surface, to the finishing band. The force-transmitting surfaces of the intermediate element or the plurality of them are oriented in a substantially V-shaped manner relative to one another, and are substantially planar in an undeformed initial state and have a curvature in a same direction as the workpiece surface when there is a pressing force.

摘要: A polishing unit of a polishing apparatus according to an embodiment includes: a polishing head having a pressing member configured to hold a polishing tape and press the polishing tape against a peripheral portion of a substrate from above; a tape supply and recovery mechanism configured to supply the polishing tape to the polishing head and recover the polishing tape from the polishing head; a first moving mechanism configured to move the polishing head in a radial direction of the substrate; and a second moving mechanism configured to move the tape supply and recovery mechanism in the radial direction of the substrate. The positioning unit includes a positioning block having a contacting surface, and alignment of the polishing tape is conducted by the second moving mechanism moving the tape supply and recovery mechanism so that a substrate-side edge of the polishing tape makes contact with the contacting surface.

The method includes the steps of placing the pivotable machining arm in a first orientation, inserting the pivotable machining arm in the desired location, determining whether the belt is in a desired position relative to the raised surface, operating the motor to rotate the belt around the pivotable machining arm, and placing the belt in contact with the raised surface.

摘要: A rotating belt (10) is used to finish the edges (23) of glass sheets (11), such as, the thin sheets (e.g., 0.7 mm) used as substrates for liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The edge (23) of the sheet (11) engages the working zone (15) of the belt (10) along a line segment (17) whose included angle with the direction of motion (19) of the belt (10) is less than 10°. The working zone (15) is brought into contact with the edge (23) by a pressure sensitive platen (13) which can accommodate errors in the positioning of the sheet (11) at the finishing station (12).
