    Abstract: A belt sander includes a frame, a drive roller, an idler roller rotatably attached to a pivot arm, a first linear actuator configured for pivoting the pivot arm, a nose roller and a continuous abrasive belt wrapped around the drive roller, the idler roller and the nose roller. A drive motor rotates the drive roller, and an air cylinder attached to the frame and a nose roller spindle exerts a first force against the frame and a second force equal to and opposite the first force against the nose roller spindle. A first sensor senses a position of a belt edge, and a first controller receives a belt edge position signal from the first sensor and sends a command signal responsive to the position signal to the first linear actuator for expanding or contracting so as to pivot the pivot arm about a pivot point.

    Abstract: A substrate processing apparatus which causes a processing tape to abut against a processing object, including: a tape supply reel configured to supply the processing tape; a tape recovery reel configured to recover the processing tape; a recovery motor configured to apply a torque to the tape recovery reel; a tape feed motor configured to feed the processing tape between the tape supply reel and the tape recovery reel; and a control unit configured to control the tape feed motor, wherein the control unit controls the torque of the recovery motor depending on a change in an outer diameter of a roll of the processing tape wound by the tape recovery reel such that tension applied to the processing tape is constant, using a feed length of the tape fed by the tape feed motor and a thickness of the processing tape.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a device (100) for machining a surface of a workpiece (200a). According to one embodiment, the device (100) comprises a frame (160) and a roller carrier (401), on which a first roller (101) is rotatably supported and which is supported on the frame (160) in such a way that the roller carrier can be moved in a first direction (x). The device (100) comprises at least a second roller (103), which is supported on the frame (160), and a belt (102), which is guided at least around the two rollers (101, 103) and because of the tension of which a resulting belt force (102) acts on the roller carrier (401). The device (100) also comprises an actuator (302), which is mechanically coupled to the frame (160) and the roller carrier (401) in such a way that an adjustable actuator force (FA) acts between the frame (160) and the first roller (101) in the first direction (x). The belt (102) is guided by means of the second roller (103), or by means of the second roller (103) and further rollers (101a, 101b, 121a, 121b, 105), in such a way that the resulting belt force (FB, FB′) acting on the roller carrier (401) acts approximately in a second direction (y) orthogonal to the first direction (x) in the case of a target deflection of the actuator (302).

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to a machining tool and method for using the machining tool. The machining tool includes a machining arm including a first arm section, a second arm section, a proximate end, a distal end, and a machining arm longitudinal axis, a belt disposed around the machining arm; and a first motor operably coupled to the machining arm, wherein at least a portion of the machining arm is configured to pivot such that an angle is formed between the distal end and the machining arm longitudinal axis. The method includes the steps of placing the pivotable machining arm in a first orientation, inserting the pivotable machining arm in the desired location, determining whether the belt is in a desired position relative to the raised surface, operating the motor to rotate the belt around the pivotable machining arm, and placing the belt in contact with the raised surface.
