摘要: The present invention relates to an apparatus, which can be part of a pre-treatment system in a plant for the production of fuels, e. g. bio-ethanol, derived from plant biomass, e. g. first generation crops, such as grain, sugarcane and corn or second generation crops such as lignocellulosic biomass. The invention relates to an apparatus for processing, such as fluffing and mixing, at least two media, such as a solid, e. g. biomass, and a fluid, e. g. steam, so as to rendering the first medium susceptible to efficient receiving of energy and/or mass which is provided by localized release of the second medium. Although the description of the present invention focuses on biomass, it is envisaged that the invention is generally applicable to control the mixing of at least two media by crossing their stream of while dispersing at least one of them.

摘要: A dispensing apparatus for the dispensing of ultra-fine particles on a dry basis in a reproducible manner. The apparatus includes a first gas-solids suspension chamber having particle fluidization means adapted thereto, and a conduit adapted between the first gas-solids chamber and a second gas-solids chamber for communicating via at least one particle orifice particles between the chambers. A high velocity gas stream provides a pressure difference between the chambers whereby a low pressure zone is created within the conduit thereby drawing in particles from the first gas-solids suspension chamber into the second gas-solids suspension chamber via the conduit. The apparatus further includes a combination of a withdrawal feed and a solenoid valve to direct particles from the second gas-solids suspension chamber into a collection area.

摘要: A powder feed control system employs an arrangement of conduits and valves for selectively directing a gas flow either through a powder feeder or through a bypass so as to quickly and precisely control the introduction of powder into and the removal of powder from the gas flow in a plasma spraying system. The arrangement of conduits and valves includes a two-way solenoid operated valve for directing the gas flow either into a powder feeder through a main conduit or into a bypass conduit which rejoins the main conduit on the other side of the powder feeder at a powder shutoff valve and a bypass and check valve. The bypass and check valve insures that the gas flow in the bypass conduit flows to the output rather than upstream to the powder shutoff valve. The powder shutoff valve includes a resilient member mounted within the bore of a housing and collapsible upon itself to close off an internal bore therein in response to the introduction of pressurized gas into a space between the housing bore and the resilient member. Air introduced into a cannister in the powder feeder with the loading of powder into the cannister is removed by an arrangement which includes a valve for selectively coupling the inside of the cannister to a vacuum source.

摘要: The invention relates to a process and device for injecting at least one stream of a finely divided material into a hot gaseous flow, such as a plasma jet. According to the invention,--there is interposed on the path of said hot gaseous flow a screen pierced with a plurality of orifices spatially distributed about said hot gaseous flow so as to fractionate the latter into a plurality of elementary flows at least approximately in the same general direction; and--said stream of finely divided material, is led to at least one nozzle at least partially surrounded by said orifices, in order to create at least one stream of finely divided material whose direction is at least approximately similar to that of said elementary hot gaseous flows and surrounded by at least certain of them. The invention is particularly applicable to plasma chemistry.

摘要: An apparatus and method for mixing a fluidized solid and a fluid wherein the fluidized solid flows in a space defined between an outer member and an inner member positioned within the outer member. A body means is provided in the space between the members to occupy a predetermined volume in the space. A stream of solid particles flows around the body, and is directed across the upper end of the inner member. Fluid is released at the upper end of the inner member which mixes with the fluidized solid.
