Abstract: Embodiments of a modulable absorption light adjustable lens (MALAL) comprise a light adjustable lens that is capable of changing its optical properties upon an adjusting irradiation, including a photo-modifiable material; and a modulable absorption front protection layer, including a modulable absorption compound whose absorption properties can be modulated with a modulating stimulus. Other embodiments include a method of adjusting an optical property of a modulable absorption light adjustable lens, the method comprising: reducing an absorption of a modulable absorption compound of a modulable absorption front protection layer of the MALAL by a modulating stimulus, the MALAL having been previously implanted into an eye; and changing an optical property of a light adjustable lens of the MALAL by applying an adjusting irradiation.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to improve or restore vision by causing a rebooting of the visual system of an eye with modification of visual search, sampling and stimulation away from the preferred retinal locus of fixation of an eye to enhance neural integration and perception of visual information from within the field of view are described herein. Some embodiments cause transient, reversible or repeatable redirection of environmental light away from the preferred retinal locus of fixation of an eye to multiple retinal locations that are not the preferred retinal locus of fixation. Some embodiments reduce exposure of environmental light at the preferred retinal locus of fixation of an eye for a determinable interval at a determinable rate. Some embodiments cause a defocusing of environmental light at the preferred retinal locus of fixation in an eye with a visual impairment or loss.

Abstract: A bioanalogic implantable ophthalmic lens (“BIOL”) capable of replacing the natural crystalline lens (NCL) in its various essential functions after the NCL having been removed and BIOL implanted into the posterior eye chamber and placed into the capsular bag vacated from the NCL. At least the posterior surface of the lens has a convex shape and is made from a transparent flexible hydrogel material. At least the anterior and posterior optical surfaces are defined by rotation of one or more conic sections along the main optical axis and the surfaces defined by the rotation will include a plane perpendicular to the axis and conical surface symmetrical by the axis. A hydrogel implantable ophthalmic lens whose optical parameters can be optimized and/or customized by a controlled absorption of electromagnetic radiation resulting in a change of the refractive index of the irradiated hydrogel.

Abstract: Systems and methods for improving vision of a subject implanted with an intraocular lens (IOL). In some embodiments, a method includes determining at least one photic phenomenon experienced by the subject after implantation of the IOL; and applying a plurality of laser pulses to the IOL, the laser pulses being configured to produce, by refractive index writing on the IOL, a phase shift in the IOL to compensate for the photic phenomenon.

Abstract: Apparatus and systems for an ophthalmic device having alignment features for a liquid filled layered stack to assemble are disclosed herein. An example apparatus may include first, second, and third optical elements arranged in a stack, with each optical element including alignment and separation features. The alignment and separation features may form a reservoir region and a dam region. The reservoir region may provide radial alignment to the first, second, and third optical elements such that an optical axis of each optical element is aligned, and the reservoir region may have a reservoir region gap formed between adjacent ones of the optical elements. The dam region, disposed radially outside of the reservoir region, may include a first dam formed due to the first and second optical elements being in contact, and a second dam formed due to the second and third optical elements being in contact, wherein the dam region determines a reservoir region gap width.

Abstract: An intraocular lens includes a lens capsule expanding device and an optical portion. A front supporting portion makes contact with an inner surface of an anterior capsule. A rear supporting portion makes contact with an inner surface of a posterior capsule while facing the front supporting portion. A connecting portion connects the front supporting portion and the rear supporting portion so as to have a biasing force to separate the front supporting portion and the rear supporting portion. Due to the biasing force, the front supporting portion presses the inner surface of the anterior capsule and the rear supporting portion presses the inner surface of the posterior capsule. The optical portion changes the curvature of a central portion according to movement of the connecting portion that moves the front supporting portion and the rear supporting portion closer to or away from each other with movement of the lens capsule.
