    Abstract: A method of treating glaucoma in an eye includes obtaining a surgical instrument having a cutting means and severing/cleaving an anterior attachment of a portion of trabecular meshwork of the eye proximate to Schwalbe's line with the cutting means while leaving the ciliary muscle tendons attached to the scleral spur of the portion of trabecular meshwork to create a trabecular meshwork leaflet. The surgical instrument including the cutting means is preferably a handheld microsurgical cutting instrument having at least one sharpened edge. Alternatively, the instrument may be an invasive or non-invasive laser cutting instrument with a laser cutting means; a vibratory cutting instrument with a vibratory cutting means; or a thermal cutting instrument with a thermal cutting means. The step of severing the portion of trabecular meshwork is preferably characterized by a linear cleavage plane severing the attachment portion without removing substantially any trabecular meshwork from the eye.

    Abstract: A phacoemulsification valve for controlling flow of eye fluid, consisting of an enclosure, a first lumen within the enclosure, having a first and a second termination, a second lumen within the enclosure, intersecting the first lumen, so that the first lumen separates the second lumen into a first and a second section, and a pin, that slides within the first lumen between a first position, wherein the pin prevents transfer of the eye fluid between the first and second sections and a second position, wherein the pin permits transfer of the eye fluid between the first and second sections. The valve also includes a first coil, proximate to the first termination, which when energized transfers the pin between the first and second positions, and a second coil, positioned in proximity to the second termination, which when energized transfers the pin between the second and first positions.

    Abstract: The devices and methods of the present invention provide a means to depress the sclera in such a fashion as to provide single point, multiple point, semicircular or 360° circumferential scleral tissue depression and light without the need for manual manipulation of the scleral depressor. The device comprises a shaped depressor for insertion between the sclera and the orbit of the eye and a holding means for positioning the depressor. In some embodiments the device can be integrated with a speculum. Use of the device eliminates the need to have a second person manipulate the depressor during the procedure and directly enables bimanual surgery.

    Abstract: Systems and devices for facilitating the flow of fluid between a first body region and a second body region are disclosed herein. The devices generally include a drainage and/or shunting element having a lumen extending therethrough for draining or otherwise shunting fluid between the first and second body regions. Further, devices configured in accordance with the present technology may be selectively adjustable to control the amount of fluid flowing between the first and second body regions. In some embodiments, for example, the devices comprise an actuation assembly that drives movement of a flow control element to modulate flow resistance through the lumen, thereby increasing or decreasing the relative drainage rate of fluid between the first body region and the second body region.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed comprising an ultrasonic handpiece having a housing, a working tip extending from the distal end of the housing, and a crystal and horn assembly positioned within the housing. The proximal end of the ultrasonic horn is free to move relative to the housing. In embodiments, the ultrasonic horn is resiliently suspended within the housing, with no rigid fixation points. The ultrasonic horn may be resiliently suspended by one or more resilient rings at the proximal end of the ultrasonic horn and by one or more resilient rings at the single nodal region of the ultrasonic horn. The ultrasonic handpiece may include a pumping module located at the proximal end of the handpiece.
