Abstract:
Methods and compositions are disclosed to treat neuropsychiatric disorders based upon a new framework of diagnosis. Axis I biomarkers include genes related to prefrontal dopamine synthesis and/or dopamine degradation. Axis II includes genes related to re uptake of dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin and autonomic hyperactivity. Axis III includes genes relates to impairments in inflammatory pathways, glutamate neurotransmission and/or neurotrophic factors. Axis IV includes genes related to glutamate reuptake and predisposition to addictive behavior, and obsessive compulsions.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for producing a dry yeast containing S-adenosyl-L-methionine using a yeast having production capability of S-adenosyl-L-methionine, the method containing: adding a cyclodextrin compound to a yeast concentrate obtained from a fungus culture liquid of the yeast; and then drying the concentrate, an SAMe-containing dry yeast obtained by the production method, and a composition formed by molding the dry yeast. According to the present invention, a dry yeast containing S-adenosyl-L-methionine, which is useful as an aqueous physiologically active substance, in a high concentration excellent in storage stability and a composition obtained by molding the dry yeast can be produced conveniently and economically and can be brought into the market.
Abstract:
The invention relates to compositions and methods to enhance the absorption of S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) and to methods of treating various disorders or diseases using non-parenteral SAMe formulations with enhanced-absorption and improved bioavailability. The enhanced bioavailability formulations may be used to treat a variety of diseases or disorders, such as for example, psychiatric disorders including, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, depressive disorders (e.g. major clinical depression) and dysthymia; as well as treating liver disorders, cancer, autoimmune disorders, inflammatory disorders, joint disorders, gastrointestinal disorders and cardiovascular disease.

Abstract:
The present invention provides methods for improving cognitive function, improving mood, and decreasing aggression in a normal adult subject, and in a subject having symptoms characteristic of a neurological disorder, by administration of a nutriceutical formulation of the invention to the subject. The invention additionally features methods of treating neurological disorders, depression, and aggression using nutriceutical formulations. Nutriceutical compositions and formulations for use in the methods of the invention, and kits containing nutriceutical compositions and formulations, are also provided.
Abstract:
Methods and compositions are disclosed to treat neuropsychiatric disorders post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In particular, described herein are angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), and in particular the combination of one or more ARB (such as telmisartan) and an agent that enhances the delivery of the ARB across the blood-brain barrier (such as minocycline). PTSD may be treated using a combination of telmisartan and minocycline at levels of each that are, by themselves, infective to treat PTSD. Also described herein are methods for treating PTSD by first identifying patents for whom the use of an ARB treatment would be effective, by determining that patient has a dysfunction in their angiotensin converting enzyme and/or other genes in the autonomic arousal axis.
