Abstract: The present application relates to methods for operating a terminal device (31) and a base station (20) of a cellular wireless multiple-input and multiple-output, MIMO, system (10). An uplink precoding for transmitting uplink signals from a plurality of antenna elements (312) of the terminal device (31) to the base station (20) is determined. An uplink pilot signal using the uplink precoding and a radio resource of a transmission frame of the MIMO system is transmitted from the plurality of antenna elements (311). At the base station (20), a downlink precoding and uplink receive parameters are adjusted based on a receive property of the precoded uplink pilot signal from the terminal device (31).

Abstract: A base station, e.g., for massive MIMO, has channel receivers, each connected to a respective antenna among a plurality of antennas to receive an RF transmission signal generated by a communication device (CD). Each channel receiver has a channel front-end module, which has a first bandwidth and converts the RF transmission signal into one or more first analog baseband signals. The channel receivers are collectively operable to define a spatial beam focus at the CD, based on channel state information of the CD. The base station has pilot signal receivers, each connected to a respective antenna among the plurality of antennas to receive an RF pilot signal generated by theCD or another CD. Each pilot signal receiver has a pilot signal front-end module, which has a second bandwidth that is smaller than the first bandwidth and converts the RF pilot signal into one or more second analog baseband signals.

Abstract: The present application relates to a method for operating a wireless communication system (10). The communication system (10) comprises a first communication device (20) having an antenna arrangement (22) configured to adjust the polarisation of a radio frequency signal to be transmitted via the antenna arrangement (22), and a second communication device (30). According to the method, a first downlink pilot signal (301) having a first polarisation is sent via the antenna arrangement (22) of the first communication device (20). A second downlink pilot signal (302) having a second polarisation is sent via the antenna arrangement (22). The first and second downlink pilot signals are orthogonal to each other and the first and second polarisations are different. The first and second downlink pilot signals are received at an antenna arrangement (32, 33) of the second communication device (30). A combined power of the first and second received downlink pilot signals (301, 302) isoptimised by varying a combining information. The combined power is a function of the first received downlink pilot signal (301), the second received downlink pilot signal (302), and the combining information. Abstract: The present application relates to a method of allocating resources for transmission of pilot signals of a plurality of terminals of a cellular multiple-input and multiple-output system. The cellular MIMO system comprises a base station having a plurality of antennas and a logic which analyses pilot signals received from a terminal at the plurality of antennas to obtain information about a radio channel property of the radio channel between the terminal and the plurality of antennas. According to the method, the base station determines whether the radio channel property between the terminal and the plurality of antennas is constant over a period of time. If the radio channel property is constant over a period of time, receiving parameters of the plurality of antennas are configured for nulling pilot signals from the terminal, and a resource, which is assigned to the terminal for a transmission of pilot signals, is assigned to another terminal.
