Various embodiments of the present invention disclose a method and a device for managing an operation mode of an electronic device which uses a low power wide area network (LPWAN). According to various embodiments of the present invention, the electronic device comprises: a communication circuit for providing wireless communication by means of LPWAN; a state detection circuit for monitoring the movement of the electronic device; a location measuring circuit for detecting the location of the electronic device; a processor electrically connected to the communication circuit, the state detection circuit and the location measuring circuit; a memory electrically connected to the processor and storing instructions enabling the processor to transmit, using the communication circuit, at least one message including the location; and a battery for supplying power to the communication circuit, the state detection circuit, the location measuring circuit, the processor and the memory, wherein the electronic device may be configured so as to operate in one state among a first state or a second state on the basis of the monitored movement, wherein, in the first state, the electronic device transmits the message in intervals of a first time, and maintains the processor in a low-power or sleep mode during all other times, and in the second state, the processor is in the low-power or sleep mode, and after the monitored movement exceeds a threshold value during a first selected duration, the processor wakes up and transmits the message. In addition, various embodiments are possible.

An electronic device for controlling at least one function based on a user input, and a control method for the electronic device are provided. According to various example embodiments, an electronic device that operates based on a user input may acquire a gesture through an input area of a display unit functionally connected to the electronic device. The electronic device may perform at least one function of the electronic device, based on various variables (for example, a time period for which the gesture is sensed, a size of an area in which the gesture is sensed, a direction in which the gesture moves, or intensity at which the gesture is sensed, through the input area) corresponding to the acquired gesture. Various other example embodiments are disclosed.

A method for determining a network status is provided. The method includes obtaining a period determined by a first processor of an electronic apparatus, using a second processor of the electronic apparatus, transmitting a preset message from the electronic apparatus to another apparatus in a network according to the determined period, using the second processor, determining the network status based on at least one of (i) whether or not a response to the preset message is received and (ii) information included in the response, using the second processor, and when the network status is determined to be abnormal, activating the first processor using the second processor.

Various embodiments of the disclosure relate to an electronic device and a wireless communication connection control method thereof. The method may include: receiving and storing at least one first account information stored in at least one server from a first electronic device via the wireless communication circuit; broadcasting a beacon signal including an indicator indicating that a WiFi access is granted based at least in part on account information related to the server via the wireless communication circuit; receiving at least one second account information from a neighboring electronic device which has received the beacon signal; determining whether the second account information is related to the first account information, based at least in part on data to be exchanged with the server via the wired communication interface; and upon determining that the second account information is related to the first account information, granting the neighboring electronic device an access to the access point in order to use the Internet, without having to request for credential information from the neighboring electronic device.
