Abstract: The disclosure concerns optical components comprising a polycarbonate-containing composition, the polycarbonate-containing composition comprising: about 95 wt % to about 99.6 wt % polycarbonate polymer; about 0.25 wt % to about 1 wt % silicon resin; about 0.05 wt % to about 0.5 wt % flame retardant; and about 0.1 wt % to about 0.5 wt % styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer coated polytetrafluoroethylene, wherein the polycarbonate-containing composition exhibits a VO rating at 0.75 mm as determined by the UL94 Flammability test, and wherein the total wt % of all components of the polycarbonate-containing composition does not exceed 100 wt %.

Abstract: A polycarbonate composition comprises: 30 to 95 wt % of one or more bisphenol A polycarbonate homopolymers; and 5 to 70 wt % of a poly(carbonate-siloxane) copolymer with a siloxane content of 10 wt. % to 25 wt. % based on the total weight of the poly(carbonate-siloxane), in an amount effective to provide a total siloxane content of 0.5 wt. % to 17.5 wt. % based on the total weight of the composition; the poly(carbonate-siloxane) copolymer comprising bisphenol carbonate units and siloxane units of the formulas or a combination comprising at least one of the foregoing, wherein E has an average value of 10 to 100, preferably 20 to 60, more preferably 30 to 50; wherein in the poly(carbonate-siloxane) copolymer less than 0.5 mol % of the siloxane units are directly coupled to another siloxane units.

Abstract: A foamed thermoplastic material includes a thermoplastic material exhibiting, in its unfoamed state, a particular flammability index, flame growth rate, and specific extinction area. The foamed thermoplastic material further includes a plurality of cells having a number average mean diameter of 5 to 150 micrometers present in an amount effective to provide the foamed thermoplastic material with a density that is 10 to 90 percent of the density of the unfoamed thermoplastic material. The foamed thermoplastic material exhibits a desirable tensile elongation and dielectric constant. A process for forming the foamed thermoplastic material, articles including the foamed thermoplastic material, and an article-forming process are also described.
