In one embodiment of the invention, the receiver determines the type of the dominant noise interference among one or more noise interferences. The receiver determines or optimizes the estimation and averaging process of the noise covariance matrix based on the type of the dominant noise interference in one embodiment of the invention. This allows dynamic selection and adaptation of the noise estimate covariance matrix based on the noise type in one embodiment of the invention.
