Abstract: A patch based depth mapping method and apparatus for high-efficiency encoding/decoding of a plenoptic video is proposed. The method may be performed in an electronic apparatus to classify a reference image and an additional image from a plenoptic video during encoding the plenoptic video and then generate an atlas including a patch using the additional image. The method may include mapping a depth value by applying minimum-maximum linear scaling in units of an input viewpoint image. The method may also include finding a minimum value and a maximum value of the depth value per the patch and remapping the depth value through minimum-maximum linear scaling.

Abstract: A device and method for performing fast grid-based refining segmentation (FGRS) for video-based point cloud compression (V-PCC) is proposed. The method may include dividing a space of a three-dimensional (3D) point cloud into multiple grids to derive multiple voxels, searching for filled voxels including one or more points, searching for surrounding voxels which are filled voxels within a certain radius from each of the filled voxels, and searching for edge voxels which are present at a segment edge among all the filled voxels. The method may also include calculating smooth scores for surrounding voxels of each edge voxel and calculating a smooth score sum which is a smooth score for the edge voxel on the basis of the smooth scores of the surrounding voxels of the edge voxel, and updating a projection plane index (PPI) for each individual point in the edge voxel using the calculated smooth score sum.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of predicting a block vector in a multi-view image, the method including allowing an encoder to determine a reference block of a reference image for a specific block of a depth image or a specific-view image among multi-view images, allowing the encoder to determine block vector information for intra block copy (IBC) of the specific block on the basis of a block vector of the reference block when the reference block is encoded using the IBC, and allowing the encoder to encode the block vector information of the specific block. The reference image of the specific view is an image of another view, and the reference image of the depth image is a texture image corresponding to the depth image.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an apparatus and method for fast refining segmentation for a V-PCC encoder. The apparatus may include a grid segmentation unit segmenting a coordinate space of a point cloud into grid units, and an edge cube search unit searching a cube containing one or more points among the cubes segmented into grid units and containing a segment boundary. The apparatus may also include a surrounding cube search unit searching an edge surrounding cube containing one or more points within a predetermined range from the edge cube, and a smooth score calculation unit calculating smooth scores for all the edge surrounding cubes and all the edge cubes. The apparatus may further include a projection plane index update unit obtaining a normal score based on the calculated smooth scores and updating a projection plane index of each point in the edge cube using the normal score.

Abstract: There is provided a motion-constrained AV1 encoding method and apparatus for tile-based streaming of an ultra-high definition image, which encodes an image such that the image can be decoded by integrating tile-based segmented images at a bit stream level without modifying an AV1 standard decoder. According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the motion-constrained encoding method includes: limiting a motion prediction range based on a format and a size of an image; and predicting motion vectors regarding tiles constituting the image, based on the limited motion prediction range. Accordingly, a tile-based streaming service is possible through motion-constrained AV1 encoding of an ultra-high definition image (360 VR image or panorama image). In addition, a consumer electronic device is enabled to integrate and decode segmented images by using a single standard AV1 decoder.
