Abstract: Computational refocusing-assisted deep learning methods, apparatus, and systems are described. In certain pathology examples, a representative image is generated using a machine learning model trained with uniformly focused training images generated by a Fourier ptychographic digital refocusing procedure and abnormalities are automatedly identified and/or enumerated based on the representative image.

Abstract: A communication system including a first detector; a first scattering medium; a second detector; an intensity modulator; a second scattering medium; wherein electromagnetic radiation transmitted from a first spot at the first scattering medium, and scattered by and through the first scattering medium and then the second scattering medium, forms a first speckle pattern detected by the second detector. The intensity modulator outputs a second spot of electromagnetic radiation representing the “ones” in a data stream at locations of the bright speckles (or at locations of the dark speckles to represent the “zeros” in the data stream) so that the electromagnetic radiation, transmitted from the second spot and scattered by and through the second scattering medium and then the first scattering medium, forms one or more second bright or dark speckles on the first detector. The data stream can be constructed from the second bright or dark speckles.

Abstract: Certain embodiments pertain to laser-based Fourier ptychographic (LFP) imaging systems, angle direction devices used in the LFP imaging systems, optical switches used in the LFP imaging systems, and LFP imaging methods. The LFP systems include an angle direction device for directing laser light to a sample plane at a plurality of illumination angles at different sample times. The LFP systems also include an optical system and a light detector. The optical system receives light issuing from the sample being imaged and propagates and focuses the light to the light detector acquiring raw intensity images.

The method includes irradiating a scattering medium and the object behind the scattering medium, creating backscattered radiation and imaging radiation that are received on the one or more pixels. The method includes digitally adjusting a phase, an amplitude, or a phase and amplitude, of reference radiation transmitted onto the one or more sensor pixels, wherein the reference radiation destructively interferes with the backscattered radiation (glare) on the one or more sensor pixels while the object is imaged on the one or more sensor pixels using the imaging radiation.
