摘要: Methods and apparatus for optical imaging and scanning of holes machined, drilled or otherwise formed in a substrate made of composite or metallic material. The method utilizes an optical instrument for imaging and scanning a hole in combination with an image processor configured (e.g., programmed) to post-process the image data to generate one complete planarized image without conical optical distortion. The optical instrument includes an optical microscope with confocal illumination and a conical mirror axially positioned to produce a full 360-degree sub-image with conical distortion. In the post-processing step, a mathematical transformation in the form of computer-executable code is used to transform the raw conical sub-images to planar sub-images. The planarized sub-images may be stitched together to form a complete planarized image of the hole.

摘要: An assembly for switching optical paths, which assembly includes multiple optical channels for guiding an illuminating light to a specimen and for guiding the light coming from the specimen to an image recording unit. The assembly also includes a plurality of light guiding mirrors and at least one light modifying element in each optical channel for directing the illuminating light and the light coming from the specimen. In each of the multiple optical channels the at least one light modifying element includes a stationary dichroic mirror. Further details regarding the arrangement and rotation of the mirrors, and how the mirrors direct the illuminating light and light coming from the specimen, are defined herein.

In some embodiments, a microscope objective comprises: a housing with mounting threads at a second end; optical components defining an optical axis, comprising: an objective lens mounted at a first end, configured to collect light from a sample placed in a field of view, the plurality of optical components create a pupil plane at a first distance along the optical axis at which rays having the same angle of incidence on the objective lens converge at the same radial distance from the optical axis; a photodetector within the housing offset from the optical axis at a second distance along the optical axis; and another photodetector within the housing at second distance along the optical axis and offset from the optical axis in the opposite direction from the first photodetector.

摘要: High speed laser scanning systems and methods are disclosed for imaging target samples. Embodiments of the laser scanning systems and methods include separating a laser beam into two or more different pathways and pulsing light along the two or more pathways. The different pathways intersect the surface of a moving mirror at different locations and light traveling in a pathway that is being approached by an edge of the moving reflective surface is turned off while light traveling in a different pathway that is farther from the edge of the moving reflective surface is turned on. Embodiments include reflective surfaces that form a rotating polygonal scanner. Further embodiments include recombining the two or more different pathways, focusing the laser light on a test sample, and imaging the light reflected from the test sample.

摘要: Embodiments of the invention provide an imaging system and method using adaptive optics and optimization algorithms for imaging through highly scattering media in oil reservoir applications and lab-based petroleum research. Two-/multi-photon fluorescence microscopy is used in conjunction with adaptive optics for enhanced imaging and detection capabilities in scattering reservoir media. Advanced fluorescence techniques are used to allow for super-penetration imaging to compensate for aberrations both in and out of the field of interest, extending the depth at which pore geometry can be imaged within a rock matrix beyond the current capability of confocal microscopy. The placement of a Deformable Mirror or Spatial Light Modulator for this application, in which scattering and index mismatch are dominant aberrations, is in an optical plane that is conjugate to the pupil plane of the objective lens in the imaging system.
