Abstract: A method for manufacturing optical scanning systems by which plural optical scanning systems with different effective scanning widths can be manufactured by changing a polygon mirror alone is provided. The method includes the steps of designing a first scanning optical system using a first polygon mirror corresponding to a first value of effective scanning width; designing a second scanning optical system provided with a second polygon mirror corresponding to a second value of effective scanning width, the second value being smaller than the first value, wherein a reference point of deflection is located at the position of the reference point of deflection of the first scanning optical system; and adjusting a size and a position of the scanning lens so as to adjust a lateral magnification in a cross section in the sub-scanning direction of the imaging optical system.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an acquiring unit configured to acquire atmosphere pressure in the installation place of the image forming apparatus, photoconductors, light sources configured to radiate laser light, and a polygon mirror configured to be rotatable. The polygon mirror exposes the photoconductors by reflecting the laser light toward the photoconductors while rotating. The image forming apparatus further includes a control device configured to control rotation of the polygon mirror. The control device outputs an enable signal for allowing the image forming apparatus to perform printing, if rotation of the polygon mirror is stabilized after start of the rotation, and advances the timing of outputting the enable signal as the atmosphere pressure increases.

Abstract: An optical scanning unit includes a rotatable multi-faceted mirror having a plurality of faces reflecting light flux emitted from a light source to scan a scanning area in a main scanning direction. A width of the light flux striking the rotatable multi-faceted mirror is smaller than a length of a face of the rotatable multi-faceted mirror. The entire of light flux striking the rotatable multi-faceted mirror is reflected at a first face when the light flux reflected by the rotatable multi-faceted mirror is directed to the center portion of the scanning area. A part of the light flux striking the rotatable multi-faceted mirror is reflected at the first face while the remaining of the light flux is reflected at a second face when the light flux reflected by the rotatable multi-faceted mirror is directed to a least one of the two end portions of the scanning area.

Abstract: An optical scanning device includes a rotary polygon mirror, a plurality of light sources, a light detecting portion, an obtainment processing portion, an a switching processing portion. The rotary polygon mirror has a reflection surface that reflects incident light, and scans, in a scanning cycle, the light reflected on the reflection surface. The light sources emit, toward the reflection surface, a plurality of light beams. The light detecting portion detects a light amount of each light beam reflected on the reflection surface. The obtainment processing portion obtains a switching timing to switch a light emission amount of each of the light sources in the scanning cycle, based on light amounts of the light beams detected by the light detecting portion. The switching processing portion switches the light emission amount of each of the light sources based on the switching timing obtained by the obtainment processing portion.
