The system also includes a plurality of planet gears, each planet gear rotatably coupled to a different gear shaft of a plurality of gear shafts and engaged with both the ring and solar gears. Rotation of the solar gear in a first direction drives the rotation of each planet gear about the gear shaft to which it is coupled in a second direction, in turn driving the ring gear to rotate in the first direction and causing the brake rotor to rotate slower than the wheel plate.

A vehicle suspension system includes a primary composite control arm element and a secondary composite control arm element. The secondary element has a length shorter than a length of the primary element. A root attachment assembly is provided for mounting an inner end of each of the primary and secondary elements to a corresponding side of a vehicle frame. The primary and secondary elements are positioned relative to each other such that the secondary element overlaps an inner portion of the primary element. An outer portion of the primary element extends beyond an outer end of the secondary element. A wheel hub assembly is mounted to the outer portion of the primary element. A shock absorber is connected to the side of the frame for damping motion of the outer end of the primary element relative to the frame. The primary and secondary composite control arm elements provide greater overall strength, a progressive spring rate, and over-load protection.

An alternate friction unit includes a substantially rigid or rigid backing co-pultruded in forming the unit. The units are produced in a pultrusion process wherein the reinforcing fibers and matrix are pulled through a forming die.

A composite friction unit of a three dimensional composite body is formed in a system for continuous process manufacturing of composite friction units. The system uses a plurality of rolls of reinforcing fiber fabrics, a resin dispensing system that receives a panel of reinforcing fiber fabric from each one of the rolls and separately dispenses resin through a plurality of dispensing tubes, each associated with a different panel, onto a surface of each panel. A forming die is positioned to receive the plurality of panels of reinforcing fiber fabric after resin is dispensed onto the panels and is configured to form a composite panel from the plurality of panels of reinforcing fiber fabrics. A cutting mechanism cuts a desired shape part from the composite panel.
