Abstract:
A medical fluid communication system is disclosed comprising a pump controller and a fluid detector. The fluid detector detects characteristics of the fluid and provides fluid measurements to the pump controller, which detects if the fluid is flowing in the medication delivery system. In the event fluid is not flowing due to an occlusion, the pump controller may attempt to resolve the occlusion or may provide a warning to a user that an occlusion is occurring.
Abstract:
A pre-filled, single-use injection device includes a passive dual shield on the patient end of the needle. The device is self-contained so that the entire needle is shielded after use without a separate passive shield system for the non-patient end.
Abstract:
A pen needle, comprising a reusable adapter configured for attachment to a distal end of a medication pen, the adapter having a proximal needle for accessing the interior of the pen injector and a fitting on the distal side for mating with a patient end needle assembly, and a disposable patient-end needle assembly having a base configured for mating with the fitting on the distal side of the adapter and a patient-end needle extending from a distal end of the base.
Abstract:
A pen needle is provided with a plastic non-patient end. Since the non-patient end needle does not contact the patient, the needle can be formed with a larger diameter, permitting more secure attachment to a medication pen and greater medication flow from the cartridge through the cannula. In addition, a two-part hub construction comprising a needle bearing sub assembly and an adapter for attachment to the pen body may be used to lower materials volume and costs, and reduce sharps disposal. In embodiments, a hub according to the invention may be provided with a shield that provides an audible and/or tactile indication when full penetration depth of the needle is achieved. Windows on the shield may reveal a color band on the hub at the full-penetration depth position to provide the user with a visual indication that the pen needle has been used.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus provide filtration for concentrating analytes, such as bacteria or exosomes, of a biological sample, such as blood or urine. The technology may employ membrane devices that implement one or more tangential flow filtration processes such as in stages. An example membrane device may typically include a membrane having sides and ends. The membrane may selectively permit constituent(s) of the sample to pass through while retaining other constituents at one side. An input chamber of the device may include an inlet near one end and an outlet near the other end, and that may permit a tangential flow of the sample along the first side surface, and a trans-membrane passing of constituent(s). An output chamber of the device may be configured at the second side surface to receive the passing constituents. Such devices may be provided in a kit to facilitate targeting of a desired biological analyte concentration.

Abstract:
User-friendly attachment mechanisms for pen needles provide improved handling and ease of use, including locking installation and removal features and sensory feedback when a needle-bearing hub is seated on a pen. Embodiments include a needle-bearing hub includes a circumferentially oriented flexible tab that engages a radially inward rib on an outer cover to assist in attaching a pen device to the pen needle.
