Abstract:
Systems and methods for power conversion are described. For example, a system may include a transformer including a plurality of secondary windings; a first set of switches connecting respective taps of the plurality of secondary windings to a first terminal; a second set of switches connecting the respective taps of the plurality of secondary windings to a second terminal; and an electrical load connected between the first terminal and the second terminal.
Abstract:
A method of treating a mammalian subject afflicted with a disease characterized by a loss of protein function caused by a genetic abnormality associated with the disease comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a protein phosphatase 2A inhibitor or a histone deacetylase inhibitor.
Abstract:
Information retrieval systems and methods are provided based on interactive user notes. Information is retrieved from one or more data sources based on user notes by obtaining the user notes containing one or more information requests; identifying the one or more information requests from the user notes; interpreting at least one of the information requests in context; generating one or more queries required for the at least one interpreted information request; identifying an update to the user notes, the update containing one or more updated information requests; and processing the updated user notes to generate one or more queries required for the updated information requests. If the user notes contain multiple information requests, at least one query is generated for each of the plurality of information requests. The information requests can be interpreted based on user-specified context guides.
Abstract:
A polymer useful in an optoelectronic device comprises structural unit of formula I: wherein R1 is, independently at each occurrence, a C1-C20 aliphatic radical, a C3-C20 aromatic radical, or a C3-C20 cycloaliphatic radical; a is, independently at each occurrence, an integer ranging from 0-4; Ar1 is aryl or heteroaryl; Ar2 is fluorene; R2 is alkylene, substituted alkylene, oxaalkylene, CO, or CO2; R3, R4 and R5 are independently hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkylaryl, aryl, arylalkyl, heteroaryl, substituted alkyl; substituted alkoxy, substituted alkylaryl, substituted aryl, substituted arylalkyl, or substituted heteroaryl; and L is derived from phenylpyridine, tolylpyridine, benzothienylpyridine, phenylisoquinoline, dibenzoquinozaline, fluorenylpyridine, ketopyrrole, 2-(1-naphthyl)benzoxazole)), 2-phenylbenzoxazole, 2 phenylbenzothiazole, coumarin, thienylpyridine, phenylpyridine, benzothienylpyridine, 3 methoxy-2-phenylpyridine, thienylpyridine, phenylimine, vinylpyridine, pyridylnaphthalene, pyridylpyrrole, pyridylimidazole, phenylindole, derivatives thereof or combinations thereof.
Abstract:
Automated contextual information retrieval techniques are provided based on multi-tiered user modeling and a dynamic retrieval strategy. Content relevant to a current message is presented by initially obtaining a multi-tiered user model containing a multi-tiered representation of interactions of a first user with each contact, wherein the multi-tiered representation includes a plurality of topic models each corresponding to interactions between the first user and one contact. The topic models contain a set of topics, each containing topic keywords. Context information is extracted based on content of the current message, a sender and/or a recipient of the current message, and the multi-tiered user model. A retrieval strategy is determined based on the extracted context information. Contextual queries are generated to search the information repositories selected based on the determined retrieval strategy. Content relevant to the current message is presented based on search results from the selected information repositories.
Abstract:
The invention aims to provide a novel alkaline protease having peculiar properties such as high alkali activity, resistance to surfactants and calcium-dependent thermostability and exhibiting excellent performance in highly alkaline detergents, and a gene coding for the amino acid sequence thereof. There is provided an alkaline protease with such properties that an active pH range is from 5 to 13, an optimum pH is approximately 12.6, an optimum temperature is 70° C., no activity drop by heating is observed up to 65° C. at pH 10 and the optimum temperature and the thermostability are not affected by Ca2+ ions. Specifically, there is provided, for example, an alkaline protease having an amino acid sequence constituting a mature enzyme as represented by SEQ ID NO: 3 or an amino acid sequence resulting from deletion, substitution, situs inversus arrangement, addition or insertion of a part of amino acids thereof, or derived from Alkaliphillus transvaalensis. The protease cleaves 26 peptide bonds among 29 peptide bonds of acidic insulin B-chain.

Abstract:
Disclosed herein are methods of preventing or reducing scale formation or corrosion by combining at least one scale-forming fluid comprising at least one scaling compound with at least one anti-scale material chosen from at least one scale-adsorbent agent. The methods may reduce or prevent the formation of scale on surfaces of liquid-related process equipment, such as boilers and heat exchangers.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are provided for run-time user control of system-generated content. A user is presented with the system-generated content and can configure one or more rules at run-time. The rules identify one or more automated actions to perform upon the system-generated content when one or more conditions are satisfied. The automated actions are executed upon the system-generated content when the one or more conditions are satisfied. The exemplary automated actions may comprise transform, retrieve, update and alert. The conditions can specify, for example, when to perform the automated actions. Active tags may optionally be attached to or embedded directly in the system-generated content or in a document containing the system-generated content. Tools are optionally provided to allow a user to manage active tags.
