Abstract:
The present invention relates to a lubricating composition containing (a) an ester-containing viscosity index improver; and (b) a polyoxyalkylene polyol. The invention further provides a method for lubricating a mechanical device with the lubricating composition.
Abstract:
The present invention relates methods of operating internal combustion engines and particularly marine diesel engines that result in reduced levels of sulfur trioxide, and similar corrosive and/or harmful byproducts of combustion. The present invention allows for the use of a lower TBN engine lubricant with a fuel of given sulfur and/or the use of a higher sulfur content fuel with an engine lubricant of a given TBN content than would otherwise be possible, without risking corrosive damage to engine.
Abstract:
The invention provides a lubricating composition containing hydrocarbyl-capped polyoxyalkylene polyol. The invention further provides lubricating compositions containing the hydrocarbyl-capped polyoxyalkylene polyol; and a method for lubricating a mechanical device with the lubricating composition.

Abstract:
Soil, which is contaminated by one or more hydrophobic organic chemicals, can be cleaned or remediated using an aqueous composition with a surfactant prepared by reacting an alkenylsuccinic anhydride or acid with an amine acid or salt of an amine acid. The surfactant allows at least a portion of the hydrophobic organic chemical to be removed from the soil by becoming associated with the aqueous composition, which is then separated from the soil.
Abstract:
Fouling in a hydrocarbon process stream is reduced by adding to the stream a composition prepared by first reacting an olefinic compound containing at least one group of the formula ##STR1## and a carboxylic reactant having the formula ##STR2## then reacting the product formed thereby with about 0.5 equivalents to about 2 moles, per mole of the carboxylic reactant, of ammonia or a hydrazine or an amine having at least one H--N group.
