    摘要: Systems and methods described herein are directed to estimating the sharpness of images or photos such as document pages or scenes. The systems and methods are based on calculating a difference in grayscale values between pixels at an edge of an image. The differences may be accomplished by taking a slope of grayscale values between two pixels at an edge window, and estimating the edge sharpness based on the slope, multiple slopes, or differences in the slopes.

    摘要: A system and method to identify pictures in documents. An image representing a page of a document is received. The image is analyzed to identify text objects in the page. A masked image is generated by masking out regions of the image including the text objects in the page. Groups of pixels in the masked image are identified, wherein a respective group of pixels corresponds to at least one picture in the page. When there is one or more groups of pixels, regions for pictures are identified based on the one or more groups of pixels. Metadata tags for the pictures are stored, wherein a respective metadata tag for a respective picture includes information about a respective bounding box for the respective picture.

    摘要: Techniques for new event detection are provided. For a new story and a corpus of stories, story-pairs based on the new story and each corpus story are determined. Adjustments to the importance of terms are determined based on story characteristics associated with each story. Story characteristics are based on direct or indirect characteristics. Direct story characteristics include authorship, language associated with a story and the like. Indirect story characteristics may include derived characteristics such as an ROI category characteristic, a same ROI characteristic, a same event-same source characteristic, an average story similarity characteristic or any other known or later developed characteristic associated with a story. Adjustments to the inter-story similarity metrics are then determined based on story characteristics and/or a weighting function. New event scores and/or new event categorizations for stories are determined based on the inter-story similarity metrics and the adjustments based on the story characteristics. Optionally new events are selected based on new event scores and a threshold value.

Raw product information data, such as product features, specifications, and user reviews are processed and analyzed using pattern-based text analysis to extract relevant product aspects and uses. A user selects uses for a product, which correspond to weighted aspects, and the weights for the aspects are used to rank products using the weights of the aspects linked to the selected uses. The ranked products are presented to the user in a customizable interface. The user may directly specify weights for the extracted aspects to further customize the ranked list of products. The interface provides additional options for viewing product details, opinions and comparisons.

    摘要: The subject invention relates to a system and method for video summarization, and more specifically to a system for segmenting and classifying data from a video in order to create a summary video that preserves and summarizes relevant content. In one embodiment, the system first extracts appearance, motion, and audio features from a video in order to create video segments corresponding to the extracted features. The video segments are then classified as dynamic or static depending on the appearance-based and motion-based features extracted from each video segment. The classified video segments are then grouped into clusters to eliminate redundant content. Select video segments from each cluster are selected as summary segments, and the summary segments are compiled to form a summary video. The parameters for any of the steps in the summarization of the video can be altered so that a user can adapt the system to any type of video, although the system is designed to summarize unstructured videos where the content is unknown. In another aspect, audio features can also be used to further summarize video with certain audio properties.
