Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate supporting Quality of Service (QoS) continuity during an inter-base station mobility procedure. Layer 2 (L2) protocol configuration information for QoS (e.g., uplink, downlink, . . . ) and/or uplink QoS configuration information set by a source base station can be transmitted via an interface (e.g., X2 interface, . . . ) to a target base station during an inter-base station mobility procedure. Further, the target base station can select whether to reuse at least a portion of the L2 protocol configuration information for QoS and/or uplink QoS configuration information received from the source base station. Moreover, L2 protocol configuration information for QoS and/or uplink QoS configuration information not selected to be reused can be reconstructed.

Techniques to support operation in a compressed mode and/or a continuous packet connectivity (CPC) mode are described. In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) may obtain an assignment of enabled subframes for the CPC mode and an assignment of transmission gaps for the compressed mode. The transmission gaps may be aligned with idle times between the enabled subframes. The UE may exchange data during enabled subframes not overlapping the transmission gaps and may skip data exchanges during enabled subframes overlapping the transmission gaps. The UE may make cell measurements during the transmission gaps. In another aspect, the UE may obtain enabled subframes and skipped subframes, exchange data during enabled subframes not corresponding to the skipped subframes, and skip data exchanges during the skipped subframes. In yet another aspect, the UE may receive orders on a shared control channel to quickly enable and disable the compressed mode.

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate providing flow control feedback for controlling downlink data transmission rates. Various schemes can be utilized to send the flow control feedback from an access terminal to a base station. For example, a control PDU (e.g., MAC control PDU, PDCP control PDU) can be generated based upon a level of resource utilization of the access terminal, and sent to the base station for controlling the downlink data transmission rate. Following this example, a type of control PDU, a value included within the control PDU, etc. can be selected as a function of the level of resource utilization. By way of another illustration, a CQI report that includes a value selected as a function of the level of resource utilization associated with the access terminal can be generated and transmitted to the base station for controlling the downlink data transmission rate.

Techniques for monitoring grant channels in a wireless communication network are described. In one design, a user equipment (UE) determines whether a monitoring condition is satisfied, monitors at least one grant channel for grants of radio resources if the monitoring condition is satisfied, and stops monitoring the at least one grant channel if the monitoring condition is not satisfied. The UE may determine that the monitoring condition is satisfied after sending scheduling information indicating that there is data to send, if there is an outstanding grant of radio resources, if a grant of radio resources is expected, if there is at least one scheduled flow and a data buffer for the scheduled flow(s) is not empty, if there is an outstanding grant of radio resources and data transmission has been sent using this grant of radio resources, if there is at least one other control channel to monitor, etc.

Techniques for sending signaling at different power levels in different operating modes are described. In one design, a UE may send signaling at a first power level in a first operating mode and may send the signaling at a second power level in a second operating mode. The UE may send the signaling with a ternary indication in the first operating mode and with an on/off keying (OOK) indication in the second operating mode. The signaling may be for acknowledgement (ACK). The UE may send ACK, negative acknowledgement (NACK), and discontinuous transmission (DTX) with ternary indications in the first operating mode. The UE may send ACK and DTX with OOK indications in the second operating mode. The UE may receive at least one power offset from a network entity and may determine the first and second power levels based on the received power offsets(s).

An apparatus for selecting a size of a radio link control (RLC) protocol data unit (PDU) is described. The apparatus includes means for receiving a request for an RLC PDU from a medium access control (MAC) layer. The apparatus further includes means for selecting the size of the RLC PDU. The apparatus also includes means for generating the RLC PDU. The apparatus further includes means for sending the RLC PDU to the MAC layer.

A method includes sending to a receiving device from a transmitting device a Radio Link Control (RLC) re-transmission scheme selected from a plurality of RLC re-transmission schemes, and using the selected and sent scheme at least at one of the receiving device and the transmitting device. In another exemplary non-limiting embodiment the method includes detecting, at the receiver, a gap in RLC Protocol Data Unit (PDU) sequence numbers, associating a timer with the gap, and starting the timer when the gap is detected. In still another exemplary non-limiting embodiment, the method includes detecting a gap in a RLC PDU sequence, monitoring a HARQ channel for a period of time to determine if a predetermined bit has changed, and determining if a transmission is lost.

A transmitter directed, distributed receiver using path diversity provided by the distribution of the receiver. Advantage is taken of the uncorrelated variations over time in the condition of channels between a common transmitter and several users. The greater the variation in the channel condition of a particular channel over time, the greater the increase in total system throughput provided. An access metric represents the instantaneous channel condition of the communication system between each user and the transmitter with respect to the average channel condition of each channel. Alternatively, the access metric represent the instantaneous channel condition with respect to the average data throughput over that channel. The common transmitting station uses the access metric to directly compare the desirability of granting each channel access with the desirability of granting each other channel access. The user that has the greatest access metric is provided access to the channel.

A method for wireless communications where a control packet is not transmitted for all transmissions of a new data packet. A control packet is only sent with a retransmission of a data packet where the previously transmitted data packet is not completely received. The control packet contains information related to a previously transmitted data packet. The previously transmitted data packet and the retransmission data packet are derived from common data. The common data is derived based on the information related to the previously transmitted data packet, wherein the previously transmitted data packet and the retransmission data packet are associated with a series of data packets.
