摘要: The present invention is related to a linear functional polymer having repeating units A, B and D. Unit A represents —CH2—, unit B represents and unit D represents where R1 represents a polar functional group. There are at least four A units separating each B unit, each D unit, and each B and D unit. The value y represents the total number of B units and is an integer greater than or equal to 1. The total number of D units is represented by h and is an integer greater than or equal to 0. And x represents the total number of A units and is an integer sufficient that the molar fraction of the B and D units in the linear functional polymer is represented by a value j defined by the equation: j = y + h x + y + h ≤ 0.032 . The present invention is also directed to a method for preparing such linear functional polymers by copolymerizing a first polar substituted monomer and a second non-polar unsubstituted monomer.

摘要: Novel maleimide copolymers have at least two monomeric units, a maleimide unit and a vinyl unit having a pendant group, the pendant group having two to twenty-one carbon atoms, at least one nitrogen atom and at least one oxygen atom. The copolymer has an average molecular weight between about 1,000 and about 6,000,000. Preferred maleimide copolymers include acrylamide/maleimide copolymers, N-vinyl amide/maleimide copolymers, vinyl lactam/maleimide copolymers, alkenyl cyclic imino ether/maleimide copolymers, and acryloylamide/maleimide copolymers. The substantially water soluble maleimide copolymers are useful for inhibiting the formation of clathrate hydrates in a fluid having hydrate-forming constituents by reducing the rate of nucleation, growth, and/or agglomeration of gas hydrate crystals in a petroleum fluid stream, thereby inhibiting the formation of a hydrate blockage in the pipe conveying the petroleum fluid stream. The inhibitor can be used conveniently at low concentrations, for example in the range of from about 0.01% to about 5% by weight of the water present in the oil or gas stream, to effectively treat a petroleum fluid having a water phase.

摘要: Disclosed is the preparation of compositions which are blends of certain types of hydrogenated ethylene-dicyclopentadiene (E/DCPD) copolymers in combination with elastomeric polymers. An E/DCPD copolymer and an elastomeric polymer are co-dissolved in a common liquid reaction medium which is then subjected to hydrogenation conditions. These hydrogenation conditions serve to hydrogenate in-situ at least a portion of the residual double bonds of the E/DCPD copolymer component and possibly also eliminate any residual unsaturation which might be present in the elastomeric polymers. This combination of materials which has been hydrogenated in-situ can then be co-precipitated to form a polymer composition which can be molded into polyolefin materials of improved structural, thermal and mechanical properties with desirable impact resistance.
