A precision tripod motion system is provided. The tripod motion system in one example includes a bottom plate including three spaced-apart bottom single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) hinge portions, a top plate including three spaced-apart top three-degrees-of-freedom (TDOF) joint portions, with the top plate configured to receive a workpiece, three linear actuators pivotally coupled to the three bottom SDOF hinge portions of the bottom plate and coupled to the three top TDOF joint portions of the top plate, with each linear actuator of the three linear actuators configured to change length over a linear actuation span, and a rotator component and/or a positioning table affixed to the top plate and the bottom plate. The tripod motion system is additionally coupled to a rotator component and a positioning table to provide six degrees of freedom of motion.
Abstract:
The equipment comprises a main support structure fixable close to the machine and in which a laser source is mounted, and a receiver for providing electrical signals indicative of the strength of laser radiation received. The receiver, in use, is located facing the source at a predetermined distance therefrom so that a field of measurement is defined between them across which the laser beam extends and in which a tool to be measured is movable so as to intercept the laser beam. The receiver is carried by an auxiliary structure connected to the main support structure and movable relative thereto between a retracted rest position, in which the structures present a minimum overall bulk and an extended working position in which the receiver is located facing the source.
Abstract:
The use of boring heads, normally used to machine accurate sized holes, as adjustable throw eccentric shafts. Boring head shanks are removed and replaced with bearing supported shafts, or otherwise attached to a rotatable energy source. Bearings are mounted to the boring head slides either directly, or by means of an adapter, or bearing journal. By selecting a suitable boring head, the adjustment may be made when the machine is at rest, or when running, manually or automatically. By fitting stepper motors or servo motors to boring heads which are manually adjustable while running, the adjustment may be controlled by a numerical control or computer control. When modified accordingly, boring heads are suitable adjustable eccentrics or crank shafts, and can be incorporated into various machine designs, providing an economical, readily available, and very accurate machine member.
Abstract:
A bench type router/shaper which includes (i) a spindle drive pack which incorporates the motor and the spindle into a unitary package so as to establish and maintain a spacial relationship between the motor and the spindle, (ii) a semi-elastic drive belt encompassing the spindle and drive shaft which has a modulus of elasticity effective for providing effective power transmission while permitting removal and replacement of the drive belt without repositioning of the spindle and/or the drive shaft, (iii) a spindle adjustment mechanism for repositioning the longitudinal position of the spindle and thereby the depth of the cutter which includes a rotatable bell crank, a spindle in communication with the first extremity of the bell crank for linear movement of the spindle based upon rotational movement of the bell crank, and a rotatable handle in communication with the second extremity of the bell crank for producing rotation of the bell crank based upon rotation of the handle and (iv) a protective shield over the cutter which provides maximum protection with minimal interference and includes a horizontal plate which is laterally pivotable about a first pivot point proximate the right end of the horizontal plate, and a vertical plate which is longitudinally pivotally connected to the horizontal plate about a second pivot point proximate the left end of both plates.

Abstract:
A slider travels on a first rod and a second rod. Both ends of the first rod are respectively connected to two first travellers which are capable of travelling along first guides arranged in parallel. Both ends of the second rod are respectively connected to two second travellers which are capable of travelling along second guides which are arranged in parallel and perpendicularly arranged to the first guides. The first rod moves the slider in a first direction with its travelling driven by a first drive. The second rod moves the slider in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction with its travelling driven by a second drive. The movement in the first and the second directions makes two dimensional movement of the slider possible.
Abstract:
Apparatus for automatic welding of complex contours made up of rectilinear and curvilinear portions. Such apparatus includes first and second movable carriages guided for reciprocation in directions parallel to each other and having a welding torch, a driving unit, and a gear rack with which a driving gear is permanently in mesh. The gear rack is permanently affixed to a first one of said carriages whereas the driving gear is mounted upon a shaft fixedly journalled upon the other of the carriages. The first and second moving carriages are mounted on first and second drive screws, respectively, which are connected to the driving unit by means of a selective motion reversing mechanism. The welding torch is affixed to the shaft bearing the gear which is in mesh with the rack. If suitable torches are used, the apparatus can also be used for cutting, building-up, and surfacing operations.

Abstract:
The following specification discloses a universal guide or pattern for use with a panograph. The panograph can comprise a number of arms that are interconnected at hinge points that support a spindle having a cutting tool for milling or cutting a circular, ornate, or eccentric shape, as well as angles and lines. The spindle with the cutter correspondingly follows the movement of a stylus that overlies the universal pattern that is formed with an arm that guides the stylus in either a two or three dimensional pattern. The pattern is formed in part on a plate having a centrally oriented pin or support post that holds a rotatable arm having a scale thereon. The rotatable arm has a pair of stops that can be set along its length at different locations with respect to the scale. The panograph stylus can be implaced within a stylus holder that moves along the arm between the stops or within the stylus holder that is secured by a set screw. The base plate is provided with a number of various angularly oriented openings so that the arm can be turned to the different angles and locked in the openings. Thus, the different angles of the holes formed on the plate, as well as the different radial locations of the arm and the stylus holder provide whatever conformation is desired on the work. In this manner, the stylus can move in a pattern that is pre-established with respect to a number of various movements without the requirement of a specific pattern for each particular conformation that is to be milled or cut.
