Abstract:
A combination pressure regulating and flow control valve which includes a valve body and cover means having an upstream port and a downstream port, and a fluid flow passage interconnecting said ports. An adjustable pressure regulator valve means is operatively mounted in said fluid flow passage. A check valve means is operatively mounted in parallel with said adjustable pressure regulator valve means, and it is operative to check the flow of fluid through said fluid flow passage when fluid is flowing through said fluid flow passage from the upstream port to the downstream port, and force it through the regulator valve means, and to allow flow of fluid through the check valve means when fluid is exhausted into said downstream port and out the upstream pressure port. A double acting, adjustable fluid flow control valve means is operatively mounted in said fluid flow passage which can provide either a meter in action or a meter out action in one direction with a free flow action in the other direction to the flow of fluid through said passage. The double acting, adjustable fluid flow control valve can also provide free flow action condition in both directions without any metering action. An adjustable quick exhaust valve means is included for quickly exhausting the downstream pressure through a second parallel fluid flow passage simultaneously with the exhaust of fluid flow through the first named passage and check valve means. The adjustable fluid flow control means includes a pair of needle valves that may be operatively mounted on a single valve stem, or on a pair of individual valve stems whereby both a meter in action and a meter out action can be provided without any free flow action.
Abstract:
A hydraulic valve has a valve member whose travel is limited at one end by an abutment. The abutment is part of a hydraulic piston-cylinder arrangement, and when the piston-cylinder arrangement is pressurized and the valve member is moved to the end of its travel, the abutment is held in a first position where the valve is only open to a small extent. If the piston-cylinder arrangement is then pressure-relieved, the force moving the valve member against the abutment displaces the abutment so that the valve can open further.
Abstract:
A device for elevating the boom of a side crane has a double acting valve provided in a hydraulic circuit so as to permit natural lowering of the boom of the side crane under its own weight as well as forcible raising and lowering hydraulically, and also so as to maintain the boom without need of further fluid supply from a pump in its forcibly lowered or lifted state for a long period of time through the trapping of hydraulic fluid within the boom cylinders on both the lifting and lowering sides thereof.
Abstract:
An overrunning load control for a hydraulic jack includes a pair of variable orifice means in series, with the degree of metering of one of such orifices being determined by fluid pressure in the end of the hydraulic jack resisting the load. The degree of metering of the other variable orifice may be selectively chosen, through actuation of a relatively low pressure hydraulic pilot system.
Abstract:
A pressurized fluid supply apparatus comprises a closed circuit including a variable delivery pump, an open circuit including a pump, a fluid reservoir and a fluid cooler, and an engine for driving said pumps having an output shaft coupled to the drive shaft of said pumps, a flow-limiter being provided in the delivery conduit of said pump of said open circuit and including a restriction whose configuration is independent of the pressure of fluid in said delivery conduit upstream of said flow-limiter.
Abstract:
A follow-up control device comprising a pneumatic cylinder connected in series or parallel with a hydraulic cylinder for controlling the movement of a load device relative to a further device, such as for transferring an article or commodity from a load device onto the hanger of a movable conveyor. The pneumatic cylinder functions as the power source for moving the load device, and the hydraulic cylinder functions as a speed control for controlling the speed of movement of the load device. The hydraulic cylinder is coupled with a substantially closed hydraulic circuit for controlling the movement of the load.
Abstract:
In cable winding gear driven by a hydraulic motor of the kind having radial pistons driving a surrounding cam ring, a control is provided for applying differential pressure to the motor pistons so that they are disengaged from the cam ring which can then rotate freely. This provision enables the cable to be run out freely, so that, for example, in a crane free fall of the load cab be allowed while avoiding damage to the motor. Pipelaying equipment including the free-fall provision is described.
Abstract:
Pressurized fluid is supplied to a reversible fluid motor through a motor control valve which may be shifted to direct fluid to either port of the motor while communicating the other motor port with an individual exhaust passage for that port thereby providing for motor operation in either direction. A separate overspeed inhibiting vlave is disposed in each of the two exhaust passages and each responds to a pressure decrease in the fluid entering the motor by reducing the flow passage for fluid exhausting from the motor thereby maintaining a constant speed determined by the setting of the motor control valve. Disposition of the overspeed valves in the motor control valve exhaust passages rather than between the motor control valve and the motor avoids any need for a bypass check valve at each overspeed valve.
Abstract:
A load balancer having a load support arm with a power cylinder having a piston operably connected to the arm with a control circuit including a pilot operated valve for directing pressure fluid to the cylinder to maintain a constant pressure on the cylinder piston in all positions of the load support arm with means for limiting the rate of movement of said load support arm in the event that either the load is lost or there is a loss of fluid pressure acting on said piston when there is a load on the load support arm.
Abstract:
A hydraulic directional valve system which may be used for controlling motor cylinders associated with a tractor or the like has paired sliding spool valves operated in opposite directions by a walking beam lever to control connection of an inlet and an outlet with either of a pair of motor ports. Slow rates of feed are obtained by metering the flow out of the motor port, whether induced by pump pressure or gravity. For this purpose, a pilot operated metering-out valve has its pilot controlled by the main spool to provide first a series of gradually increasing small openings and during final movement of the spool to cause instantaneous opening of a large pilot operated metering-out valve which opens in a direction opposite to the movement of the main spool. The system includes a pilot operated pressure relief valve which provides unloading of the supply pressure when all directional valves are in neutral, which provides also hydraulic detent release for the main spool during slow metering and when pressure builds up at the end of a motor stroke and which further provides overload relief at a still higher maximum pressure.
