摘要: A valve is employed to control the flow of temperature control fluid to a radiator in an internal combustion engine. The valve is hydraulically actuated by a pair of hydraulic fluid injectors to move between a first position for preventing the flow to a second position for allowing the flow. The valve reciprocates within a valve housing. The fluid injectors cause pressurized hydraulic fluid to be delivered to and removed from a chamber in the valve housing. The fluid pressure in the chamber pushes against a valve diaphragm or piston to cause the diaphragm or piston to move from a first state to a second state, thereby causing a valve member or valve piston shaft to move from the first position to the second position. The valve can also control the flow of temperature control fluid through the oil pan and around the intake manifold.

摘要: A water cooling system for a locomotive engine that enables the engine to operate at a maximum power level that generates a maximum permissible engine cooling water temperature corresponding to a particular ambient air temperature. The water cooling system can be either an open-loop or a closed-loop controlled system. In the open-loop control system, an ambient air temperature sensor measures the ambient air temperature. When the ambient air temperature exceeds a predetermined value, a signal from the temperature sensor to a signal processor automatically causes the engine power to derate in accordance with the temperature such that the heat generated by the engine maintains the water temperature of the cooling water constant. An ambient pressure sensor senses ambient pressure such that a correction factor is supplied to correct for cooling losses at higher altitude. In the closed loop system, the signal processor generates an error signal as the difference in the maximum allowable engine-out water temperature and the measured water temperature. The signal processor then generates a signal causing the engine power to derate such that the heat generated by the engine maintains the water temperature near the specified design limit. A throttle notch 8 to 6 knock-down cooling procedure is also incorporated as a safety mechanism in the event that the other cooling system fails.

摘要: A cooling system for a vehicle having an internal-combustion engine has a plurality of cooling circuits with heat exchangers for each circuit. The temperatures of different cooling media are measured and processed in a switching device to form an output signal which serves to control a fan. In this way, the air flow through the heat exchangers can be varied depending on measured temperature conditions. Individual capacity control of each cooling circuit is possible, thereby preventing unfavorable operating conditions in the individual circuits. The cooling capacity demand of the individual cooling circuits is determined by a central control unit which receives signals from temperature sensors in each circuit. The central control unit includes a microprocessor. Each cooling circuit has an actuating means for individually controlling the capacity of the relevant heat exchanger.

摘要: Provided according to the present invention is a vehicular engine cooling apparatus comprising cooling fan means for cooling at least one of an engine and an environment of the engine, the engine being operated with use of any of two or more different fuels and a mixed fuel formed of a combination of the different fuels. This apparatus further comprises a mixture ratio sensor for detecting the mixture ratio of the two or more different fuels, and a controller for actuating the cooling fan means in accordance with the fuel mixture ratio detected by the mixture ratio sensor, after the engine is stopped. Preferably, the cooling fan is operated only during a predetermined operating time set in accordance with the fuel mixture ratio and the temperature of at least one of the engine and the environment of the engine.

摘要: A motorized water valve of the butterfly-type having the motor case and gear reduction housing formed integrally with the valving chamber. The metal butterfly has elastomeric material formed thereover to provide improved sealing and prevent leakage when the valve is closed thereby enabling substantially shortened warm-up in thermostat application. The control system employs the valve at the engine block outlet to control coolant flow to the radiator in response to an electrical control signal based upon comparison of the sensed block temperature with a desired engine temperature. The control system also employs the valve to control coolant flow to the heater core in response to an electrical control signal based upon a comparison of sensed in-car temperature and a desired in-car temperature selectd by the driver. Heater core discharge air may also be sensed and included in the comparison to provide a control signal to permit automatic in-car temperature regulation. An additional control signal also be generated from the comparison to control heater blower speed control. The control system, upon cold engine starts, opens the radiator coolant valve fully for a short time to allow full flow to clean the valve and remove deposits, then returns to the closed position to continue engine warm-up. The control system may also employ an outside air temperature transducer to provide a signal used in the comparison to enable automatic regulation of desired engine coolant temperature.

摘要: A mixing valve for an engine cooling system includes a cylindrical chamber, a main thermostatic element mounted in the chamber, first and second inlets axially spaced along the chamber, and a sleeve connected to the thermostatic element and movable in response to the changing temperature of liquid flowing through the chamber from a position completely blocking flow through one inlet and leaving the other inlet totally open to positions gradually permitting flow through the first inlet and restricting flow through the second inlet. A second thermostatic element is positioned outside the body of the mixing valve and has a piston axially aligned with a piston of the main thermostatic element and engaged therewith to adjust the starting position and range of movement of the sleeve. The second thermostatic element is responsive to parameters such as external air temperature, engine load, engine speed, etc. The double thermostatic element arrangement is also disclosed in connection with poppet valves.
