A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus may identify a trigger condition relating to one or more of cell information regarding a cell to which the apparatus is connected, channel allocation information regarding the device, or a device display status of the apparatus. The apparatus may selectively activate or deactivate an advanced receiver of the apparatus based at least in part on the trigger condition.

Various aspects described herein relate to encoding or decoding a media access control (MAC) layer transport block having an enhanced MAC header format, a split and partial MAC header, and a MAC transport block design. A method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The techniques described herein may apply to different communications technologies, including 5th Generation (5G) or New Radio (NR), wireless communications technology.

In device-to-device (D2D) communication in a licensed spectrum, selection of a transmit pool and distribution of codes to be transmitted to the transmit pools for more efficient transmission is desired, for a given period. The apparatus may a user equipment (UE) for D2D communication in a licensed spectrum. The UE sets a discovery epoch to a shortest discovery period among discovery periods of a plurality of transmit resource pools, each transmit resource pool of the plurality of transmit resource pools associated with a respective frequency. The UE estimates a channel utilization of each transmit resource pool of the plurality of transmit resource pools based on one or more previous transmissions on each transmit resource pool of the plurality of transmit resource pools. The UE selects a transmit resource pool among the plurality of transmit resource pools for a D2D transmission within the discovery epoch based on the estimated channel utilizations.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for coordinating UE capabilities across RATs. In some cases, a UE may provide an indication of one or more first sets of capabilities of the UE to operate in a first RAT network that are compatible with one or more second sets of capabilities of the UE to operate in a second RAT network. Indicating the sets of capabilities may require less signaling overhead than explicitly signaling all possible combinations of capabililites.

A method for wireless communication, for example, accessing a wireless network via a network access node and determining whether the network access node is a frequented node or a non-frequented node based on an identifier for the network access node is provided. The method executes a modem function using a corresponding selected hypothesis having associated weights for each feature associated with the modem function, and being a unit sourced hypothesis or a crowd sourced hypothesis, each hypothesis corresponding to a modem function and including a plurality of features, state information and at least one trigger point. The method sends information, to a server, the information comprising a device identifier identifying the UE, the modem function, the selected hypothesis and associated weights, metrics for each feature and state information, if state information is available, in response to a trigger point being met when executing the modem function. Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for adaptive antenna switching for measurements, for example, in high gain automotive devices. According to certain aspects, a method is provided herein for wireless communications. The method generally includes selecting, based on one or more conditions, a first measurement configuration that uses at least an external antenna mounted on a surface of a vehicle for one or more measurements or a second measurement configuration that uses at least an internal antenna associated with the vehicle for the one or more measurements; performing the one or more measurements using the selected measurement configuration; and sending a report based on the one or more measurements. The techniques for measurement configuration selection may allow the device to achieve the benefits of both the high gain external antenna and the lower gain internal antenna(s) depending on the current conditions.

Aspects relate to methods and apparatus for dedicated bearer (DB) establishment handling during call setup for long term evolution. According to aspects, a method is provided herein for wireless communications that may be performed, for example, by a user equipment (UE). The method generally includes establishing a connection with a first access point (AP) to perform a call set up procedure for a call; receiving from the first AP a message associated with handover to a second AP; delaying giving up the call setup procedure for a duration if the message includes or is associated with an indication to release a dedicated bearer; and allowing establishment of a DB with the second AP during the duration. Consequently, the DB can be established with the second AP, without the UE giving up the call setup, and the call can be performed, thus improving user experience. Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for improving buffer size setting for one or more buffer status reports, such as one or more extended buffer status reports (eBSRs) in a wireless communication system. According to certain aspects, a method is provided herein for wireless communications performed by a user equipment (UE). The method generally includes determining a first amount of data stored in a buffer at the UE; and if the first amount of the data satisfies (e.g., is equal to or greater than) a threshold, sending a first BSR indicating a second amount of buffered data at the UE greater than the first amount. As a result, the UE may be scheduled by the base station for a greater amount uplink resources for transmitting the buffered data.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for adjusting flow rate of transmissions received at a device. A user equipment (UE) determines, in response to detecting a trigger condition, a proposal to adjust feedback provided to a base station (BS) in order to adjust a flow rate of transmissions received at the UE from the BS. The UE adjusts the feedback based on the proposal and at least one additional condition and transmits the adjusted feedback to the BS.
