摘要: In a braking system a dump valve opens during an imminent skid condition to dump fluid from a brake circuit to a reservoir space. A reservoir piston defining a boundary of the reservoir space then moves in a first bore against a spring so that a control rod, integral with the reservoir piston, allows a ball valve member to engage with its seat to cut-off communication between a master cylinder and a wheel brake. Simultaneously, fluid flows from the reservoir space through an inlet valve to a working chamber of a pump provided in a second bore in the reservoir piston so that a pump piston working in the bore engages with a rotatable eccentric. Fluid is then pumped from the pump chamber, past an outlet valve through an outlet passage in the control rod, and returned to the reservoir space through the open dump valve.

摘要: An internal shoe-drum brake is disclosed in which a pair of arcuate shoes can be applied to a rotatable drum by an hydraulic actuation system for normal service braking when the brake acts as a brake of the "two-leading" shoe type and a mechanical actuation system for parking or emergency braking when the brake acts as a brake of the "duo-servo" type. The hydraulic system comprises two hydraulic pistons, each of which acts on the leading end of a respective shoe, and first and second abutments are provided against which the trailing ends of the shoes are adapted to rest. One abutment is fixed but the other abutment includes an auxiliary hydraulic piston which is adapted to be urged against a fixed stop by hydraulic pressure applied to the pistons. The reaction from the trailing end of a respective shoe tends to urge the piston away from the stop, but the area of the piston is sufficient to prevent this happening when the hydraulic pressure is acting on the piston. A floating mechanical strut acts between the shoes to transmit the reaction from the trailing end to the leading end when no hydraulic pressure is applied to the auxiliary piston.

摘要: A disc brake (1) comprises a cylinder (5) slidably mounted on a carrier member (2) for movement parallel to the axis of rotation of the disc. The cylinder (5) is closed at the end adjacent the disc. A bridge member (10) of integral structure, for example forged steel, connects the piston (7) to the outboard brake pad (15). In use, when hydraulic fluid is supplied to the cylinder (5) the cylinder slides on the carrier to apply the inboard brake pad (14) to the disc, and the piston applies a force to the outboard pad (15) via the bridge member (10). The seals (8,9) between the piston (7) and cylinder (5) are isolated from the heat produced by the brake pads, and the bridge member (10) does not require accurate machining and can be designed to provide the maximum strength.

摘要: A control valve assembly for a vehicle braking system comprises an inlet, an outlet, a proportioning valve having a control valve member movable to open and close the valve to control communication between the inlet and the outlet, and an inertia-responsive device, preferably a pendulum, responsive to deceleration of the vehicle and operable to reduce the pressure at the outlet after the valve has closed. The inertia-responsive device supplies a signal in dependence upon deceleration, and a servo system applies a force to the control valve member in response to the signal to move the control valve member in a direction to reduce the outlet pressure. The servo system comprises an auxiliary valve operable in response to movement of the inertia-responsive device, a pressure operable member subjected to a pressure in dependence upon operation of said auxiliary valve, and an arrangement coupling the pressure operable member in force-transmitting relation with the control valve member, whereby said control valve member is subjected to a force which is dependent upon the vehicle deceleration.

摘要: In an hydraulic system an unloader valve is located in a line between a pump and an hydraulic accumulator. The unloader valve is operative to prevent the accumulator from being overcharged and to allow the pump to re-charge the accumulator should the pressure stored therein fall below a desired minimum value. The unloader valve incorporates a control valve comprising a spool, and a pressure responsive slave which is operated by fluid pressure under the control of the control valve. Two springs bias the spool into a first position in which pump pressure can be supplied to the accumulator, and the second spring is inoperative when the spool is moved into a second position in which fluid pressure from the accumulator can act on the sleeve to reduce the pump pressure to that of the tank for the pump.

摘要: In an hydraulic system in which an hydraulic accumulator is charged with hydraulic fluid under pressure by means of an hydraulic pump which draws hydraulic fluid from a tank, and an unloader valve disposed in a supply line between the pump and the accumulator is operative to prevent the accumulator from being overcharged and to allow the pump to re-charge the accumulator should the pressure stored therein fall below a desired minimum value, the unloader valve incorporates a control valve, and a pressure responsive slave which is operated by fluid pressure under the control of the control valve. The control valve comprises a valve member which is movable between a first position in which the accumulator is isolated from the slave so that pump pressure is supplied to the accumulator, and a second position in which fluid pressure from the accumulator can act on the slave to render the slave operative to reduce the pump pressure or disable the pump, and a cut-out spring for biassing the valve member at all times towards the first position. The valve member has different effective areas of which a smaller area is subjected to a control pressure dependent upon the pressure in the accumulator and in response to which the valve member can move at a cut-out point from the first position into the second position, and a greater area is subjected to the pressure in the accumulator, at least when the control member is in the second position, to determine a cut-in point at an accumulator pressure less than the pressure in the accumulator at the cut-out point and at which the control member can move from the second position into the first position.

摘要: A hydraulic anti-lock braking system incorporates a pump for generating the energy necessary to re-apply a brake automatically after pressure applied to the brake from a master cylinder has first been released to prevent the wheel controlled by that brake from locking. The pump is adapted to pump fluid back both to the brake and to the master cylinder. Pumping the fluid back to the brake achieves a satisfactory pedal feel, and pumping fluid back to the master cylinder ensures the use of a fail-safe re-application of brake pressure.
