    摘要: The invention is directed to a hydraulic, anti-skid braking system for a wheeled vehicle. A source of hydraulic or other operating fluid is applied to the brakes of the vehicle. A sensor indicates when the speed of wheel rotation exceeds a predetermined value. Responsive thereto, a modulator assembly modulates a supply of the operating fluid to the vehicle brakes. An electronic control unit controls the modulator assembly in order to isolate the source of operating fluid from the brakes and to relieve the pressure of the operating fluid applied to the brakes. At the termination of a sensor caused signal, there is a re-application of the operating fluid to the brakes at a controlled rate. The modulator assembly has a bore, a valve spool working in the bore, a first normally closed solenoid for operating a valve, a passage between first and second ends of the bore, and a second solenoid operated valve in the passage. The second solenoid operated valve, a passage between first and second ends of the bore, and a second solenoid operated valve in the passage. The second solenoid operated valve controls the re-application of fluid to the brake by establishing a pressure differential across the valve spool, and, in turn, to meter the applying of fluid to the brakes.

    摘要: In a vehicle anti-skid hydraulic braking system of the pump/re-apply type the pump plunger is of differential outline and works in a stepped bore. An annular chamber and a full pump chamber are defined in the bore on opposite sides of the head of the piston. The annular chamber is pressurized by fluid at a pressure dependent on the difference in pressure between the master cylinder and the brake, and the chamber is subjected to the pressure in the annular chamber in one direction and the pressure in the master cylinder in the opposite direction. The system is therefore provided with a pump which forces fluid back to the master cylinder but with torque levels similar to a pump which acts against brake pressure.

    摘要: A load conscious brake pressure reducing valve assembly comprises a piston (2A) mounted on a piston rod (2) and movable to control a valve (6) for controlling the connection between an inlet (4) and outlet (3). The valve body (1) is mounted on a sprung part (7) of a vehicle and the piston rod (2) is coupled to an unsprung part (9) by a position sensing lever (10) and springs (32,20) nominal separation of the sprung and unsprung parts the sensing device (8) exerts no force on the piston rod. For greater spacings of the sprung and unsprung parts the spring (20) exert a force on the piston rod which opposes the force of an internal spring (5), and for lesser spacings the spring (32) exert a force on the piston rod which enhances the force of the internal spring. As a result the net spring force acting on the piston always decreases as the separation of the sprung and unsprung parts increases.

    摘要: An anti-skid braking system incorporates a modulator assembly through which fluid from a source is supplied to a brake. The modulator assembly comprises a de-boost piston working in a bore in a housing, an expander chamber connected to the brake and defined in the bore between one end of the piston and a first valve, and a second valve for controlling the application to the piston of support fluid to determine the relative position of the piston in the bore, the second valve being manipulated in response to a skid signal. The operation of the first valve is controlled independently of the piston by a flow-control regulating valve which is arranged to open the first valve upon failure of a supply of support fluid irrespective of the position of the de-boost piston.

    摘要: An hydraulic anti-skid system incorporates a pump having a piston assembly. The piston assembly comprises a pump plunger which is reciprocable in a bore of a drive mechanism, a signal piston coupled to the pump plunger, and a spring for urging the pump plunger out of engagement with the drive mechanism. The signal piston has a first area which is exposed to the pressure from a master cylinder or the brake when the brake is applied to urge the signal piston in a direction such that the pump plunger can engage with the drive mechanism. A dump valve is provided for controlling fluid in a stop chamber to which the piston assembly is exposed at least after the brake has been applied. The dump valve is normally closed to trap fluid in the stop chamber in order to hold the piston assembly in a retracted position in which the pump plunger is disengaged from the drive mechanism, and the dump valve is movable into an open position in response to the skid signal to release fluid from the stop chamber whereafter the pump plunger can engage with the drive mechanism.

The modulator assembly incorporates an expansion chamber and an hydraulic pump has a working chamber which is connected to the expansion chamber. A dump valve disposed between the expansion chamber and a reservoir for fluid is operable by the sensing device to regulate the pressure in the expansion chamber in accordance with the deceleration of the wheel braked by the brake. The pump is operable only to repressurize the expansion chamber following correction of a skid.
