摘要: A valve actuating mechanism for an internal combustion engine is provided including an integrally formed stop element to limit the axial travel of the valves toward the piston to a predetermined maximum extent in the event an adjacent associated valve becomes stuck and unmovable. The present invention further provides a valve actuating mechanism including a guideless valve bridge with specifically configured contact faces which prevents both the excess axial movement of the valve stem and the transfer of undesired loads to the valve stem or adjacent structures.

摘要: A valve operating device for the intake or exhaust valves of a multicylinder internal combustion engine. Each cylinder has a valve operating mechanism associated therewith for opening and closing intake or exhaust valves associated with that cylinder in at least two different manners for different engine speeds. The cylinders are divided into two or more groups with each of said valve operating mechanisms being arranged to operate the intake or exhaust valves associated with the cylinders in one of the groups in a different operation mode from the intake or exhaust valves associated with the cylinders in another of the groups, at least under a certain operating condition of the engine, such as at low speed. The various embodiments disclosed different arrangements for the valve operating mechanisms for improving engine operation over various ranges of engine speed.

摘要: A valve operating device for an internal combustion engine having a drive rocker arm operatively associated with an intake or exhaust valve and a free rocker arm releasable from the intake or exhaust valve. The drive rocker arm and the free rocker arm are disposed adjacent to each other and operable selectively in mutually different modes according to the rotation of the camshaft. In one embodiment either the drive or free rocker arm has two arms connected together with one arm on each side of the other rocker arm for balanced loading. A selective coupling mechanism is disposed between the drive rocker arm and the free rocker arm for selectively connecting and disconnecting them with a coupling pin movable in a direction substantially normal to the axis of the rocker shaft.

摘要: The heat-insulating engine structure according to the invention comprises fitting a ceramic head liner for which a cylinder liner top and a head lower surface portion are unified structurally in a cylinder head, coating an outer surface of the cylinder liner top of the head liner with a heat insulating laminate with a metallic sheet and a heat insulating material with potassium titanate as a principal component wound spirally by turns with a compressive force exerted thereon, thus enhancing strength or pressure resistance, forming a wall of the head liner as thin as possible to minimize a thermal capacity of the head liner, thereby enhancing suction efficiency and cycle efficiency. Further, heat insulation efficiency is enhanced all the more by disposing the heat insulating laminate having air layers between the head liner and the cylinder head. The manufacturing method for the heat insulating engine structure comprises heating the metallic sheet for thermal expansion, placing the heat insulating material on the metallic sheet, winding up spirally the metallic sheet on which the heat insulating material is placed to an outer peripheral surface of the cylinder liner top of the ceramic head liner, exerting a compressive force on the cylinder liner top by contraction of the metallic sheet thereafter, thereby ensuring the structure that withstands high pressures despite the thin-walled head liner.

摘要: A cylinder head for a water-cooled internal combustion engine has a lower and an upper cylinder head portion fitting over one another along a parting plane traversing cooling chambers complementally formed in the lower and upper cylinder head portions. The lower cylinder head portion has intake and exhaust ports and is tightened to a cylinder block. The upper cylinder head portion carries a valve operating assembly of the engine. A cylinder head cover is situated above the upper cylinder head portion and covers the valve operating assembly. The lower cylinder head portion has a circumferential lower wall bounding a liquid-guiding chamber provided in the lower cylinder head portion and serving for returning oil from the upper cylinder head portion. The lower cylinder head portion also has a circumferential upper wall constituting an upward continuation of the lower wall and extending from the intake and exhaust ports. The circumferential upper wall has a circumferential seating face supporting the cylinder head cover. The upper cylinder head portion is not in a direct contact with the cylinder head cover.

摘要: A multipart ceramic cylinder head construction, comprises: a ceramic plate having (i) opposed faces, (ii) a central zone through which extends a transverse central axis, (iii) a peripheral zone about the central zone, the plate further having three or more gas or fluid transfer openings extending transversely through the central zone and spaced about the central axis to divide the central zone into radial sectors, each sector containing one of the openings; a first ceramic intake port block having sufficient ceramic mass to define a gas passage and define an integral compression receiving portion, the first block being adapted to mate with one of the radial sectors of the plate to align the first passage with the opening in such one radial sector; a second ceramic exhaust port block having sufficient ceramic mass to define a second gas passage and define an integral compression receiving portion, the second block being adapted to mate with another of the radial sectors of the plate to align such second passage with the opening in such other radial sector; and means effective to (i) secure the blocks mated to the plate in compression, and (ii) provide an air gap spacing between the blocks.
