摘要： A novel crankcase dispersant reaction product having fused therein an antioxidant moiety whereby the dispersant reaction product can function as an antioxidant while retaining at least two structural domains, one being a polar domain for association with sludge and a hydrocarbyl domain for oil solubility, so that the dispersant can function as a chemical agent to suspend sludge and prevent agglomeration of sludge precursors and soot so the latter can be readily removed from the system, such as by filtering, instead of being deleteriously deposited on internal engine components, as well as lubricant compositions incorporating such novel dispersant and, for instance, engines lubricated with such lubricant compositions.

A process using alkylated diphenylamines; alkylated phenyl-α-naphthyl amines; and a metal catalyst to form oxidates is provided. The metal catalyst is a combination of a cation and an organic anion, for example, a metal acetylacetone. The reaction takes place in the presence of oxygen to form an antioxidant comprising oligomers of the alkylated diphenylamine and the alkylated phenyl-α-naphthyl amine, and a metal component of the catalyst.

摘要： An antioxidant which comprises a primary aliphatic hydroxyl group linked to an organic backbone such that upon oxidation a hydroperoxyl moiety capable of boosting the efficacy of free radical scavengers and hydroperoxide decomposer type antioxidants is generated in situ. The antioxidant is preferably a high hydroxyl polyol ester having a hydroxyl number ranging from about 30 to about 180 which ester is the reaction product of polyol and an acid which is at least fifty percent branched carboxylic acid, wherein the unconverted hydroxyl group is reacted with a facile leaving group, thereby producing free —CH2OH groups upon hydrolysis or oxidation.

摘要： An improved additive package including at least a polymeric amine antioxidants and a borated extreme pressure/antiwear agent for a polyol ester lubricant suitable for use in high temperature applications is provided. The lubricant fluid includes a base stock that is the reaction product of a polyol and monocarboxylic acid mixture including a major proportion of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid (iso-C9 acid). The additive package may be added in up to about 20 percent by weight of the lubricant to provide a viscosity of the lubricant at 40° C. of at least about 140 cSt and at 100° C. of no less than about 15.0 cSt. Greases are formed by adding a thickener to a high viscosity lubricating fluid.

The mixture includes a reaction product of a first synthetic mono-hydrocarbyl substituted sulfonic acid having from about 20 to about 50 carbon atoms in the hydrocarbyl substituent, a second synthetic mono-hydrocarbyl substituted sulfonic acid having from about 10 to about 16 carbon atoms in the hydrocarbyl substituent, and an inorganic alkali metal base. The reaction product has a number average molecular weight ranging from about 400 to about 500 and a substantially bimodal molecular weight distribution.
