摘要: A polymeric composite useful for producing large shaped articles such as railroad crossties comprisesa filler component having minimal reinforcing/structural characteristics; and a polymer blend including at least one polymeric stiffening component, at least one polymeric density component, and at least one polymeric flexibility component. The polymer blend can include post-consumer recycled thermoplastic polymers. To produce the composite, a multistage extruder brings a blend of polymer and filler materials to an extrudable threshold without completely liquefying the polymer blend. The extruded blend is cooled within a mold to form a shaped article such as a recycled composite crosstie. Exemplary recycled composite mixtures may include composite polymer materials, such as, polypropylene, High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (HMW), Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), ABS, Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA), Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE), and combinations of these polymers. The filler may include talc, fly ash, potash, and combinations of these or other mineral powder products.

摘要: A method and system (10) of fabricating elastomeric compounds is provided. The method includes the steps of establishing a thermo-kinetically heated high speed mixer (100) and introducing into that high speed mixer (100) in predetermined quantities a comminuted rubber composition (110), a plasticizing agent composition (120), and at least one additive composition (130, 132, 134). The method includes the further step of simultaneously mixing and thermo-kinetically heating the comminuted rubber (110), plasticizing agent (120), and additive compositions (130, 132, 134) in the high speed mixer (100) for a predetermined residence time period to form a first intermediate mixture composition. The first intermediate mixture composition contains a substantially homogenous mixture of the comminuted rubber (110), plasticizing agent (120), and additive compositions (130, 132, 134). The first intermediate mixture composition is introduced with a plastic composition into a heated multi-stage extruder (500) to form a second intermediate mixture composition extrusively shaped to a predetermined sectional contour. The second intermediate mixture composition is thereafter dried to form an elastomeric compound.

摘要: In methods and apparatus for heat exchange to and from a body surface using a heat transfer fluid the fluid is impinged on the surface from a plurality of delivery inlets in the form of a corresponding plurality of spaced delivery streams and is immediately removed from the plenum upon rebounding from the surface through a plurality of spaced removal outlets distributed among the delivery streams, thus establishing corresponding very short uninterrupted flow paths between each inlet and its removal outlet/s. Preferably, the fluid stream velocity is sufficient for it to penetrate and disrupt a fluid boundary layer on the body surface. Each delivery inlet may have its outlet to the surface spaced from 0.001 cm to 0.2 cm (0.0004 in to 0.08 in) from that surface. Each delivery inlet may produce a jet impinging the surface of from 0.3 cm to 1.5 cm (0.12 in to 0.6 in) diameter. The delivery streams may impinge a flat body surface from a right angle to an acute angle, while when the body surface is curved the delivery streams may impinge from a right angle to one that is tangential thereto. A particular apparatus with which the heat exchanger may be used has a cylindrical rotor rotating within a cylindrical stator so that the body surface is cylindrical; the rotor diameter may be from 0.1 cm to 500 cm (0.04 in to 200 ins).

摘要: A material melting device (10) for melting a work material, and discharge of the melted work material, is described. The material melting device (10) comprises a cold part (12) and a hot part (30), and a work material duct (22) for supplying said work material. The work material duct (22) extends at least partially through the cold part (12) to a melting chamber (33) arranged in the hot part (30). The hot part (30) comprises a nozzle duct (34) extending from the melting chamber (33) to a nozzle opening (35) such that melted work material can be flowed from the melting chamber (33) and discharged from the nozzle opening (35). The melting chamber (33) has a cross-sectional area which is larger than the cross-sectional area of the work material duct (22).

摘要: A filter unit for an extruder system has an outer support body, which is hollow cylindrical and limits an interior. A plurality of outer through-openings open into the interior. An outer filter element is arranged on the support body in the region of the outer through-openings. An inner support body with a plurality of inner through-openings is arranged in the interior. An inner filter element is arranged on the inner support body in the region of the inner through-openings. Using the filter unit according to the invention, a low differential pressure of a plastics material melt to be filtered can be achieved as both the outer filter element and the inner filter element provide a corresponding filter area.

摘要: A soft, pelletizable poly(vinyl chloride) plastisol having a Shore A hardness of less than about 70 is disclosed. The plasticizers employed in the plastisol can be petroleum-based plasticizers or bioplasticizers or both. A method of gelation, fusion, and controlled cooling in an agitating chamber permits a conventional liquid plastisol to be transformed into the pelletizable plastisol strand. If a pelletizer is used after cooling into strands or other shapes, then pelletized plastisol results. The formulation of liquid plastisol for hardness is unaffected by the transformation. The solidified plastisol can be stored for later extrusion or molding into a final plastic article shape.
