    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for transmitting a packet in a communication system, the method comprising: generating drop information indicating at least one source packet to be dropped among source packets to be transmitted and whether or not to drop each of the other source packets except the at least one source packet; performing forward error correction (FEC) encoding on the drop information and the other source packets except the at least one source packet; generating a repair packet comprising repair data for restoring the drop information and a repair symbol for restoring the other source packets except the at least one source packet; and transmitting the other source packets except the at least one source packet and the repair packet.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a method for receiving a data packet by a receiving apparatus in a multimedia system, the method comprising: receiving the data packet; obtaining, from a payload header of the data packet, a fragment indicator including information about fragmentation of a data unit in a payload of the data packet and a fragment counter indicating a number of at least one payload containing at least one fragment of the data unit succeeding the payload; and identifying that at least one number indicated by the fragment counter is to be reused in a case that the fragment indicator includes a value indicating that the payload contains a fragment of the data unit that is neither a first nor a last fragment, and the fragment counter indicates a number indicating that there is no at least one payload containing the at least one fragment of the data unit succeeding the payload, wherein a total number of fragments of the data unit is larger than a maximum number indicated by the fragment counter.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for reproducing multimedia data in a broadcasting and communication system. The apparatus for reproducing multimedia data according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a receiver for receiving multimedia data; a data processor for processing the received multimedia data and extracting a data unit and signaling information; a synchronization information processor for extracting synchronization information related to a broadcasting image provided by a current service from the signaling information; a service demultiplexer for extracting audio data or video data from the data unit; and a broadcasting image reproducer for decoding the audio data or video data, and reproducing the decoded audio data or decoded video data on the basis of the synchronization information.

    Abstract: A method by which a signal transmission device transmits packets in a communication system is provided. The method includes the operations of, generating a source symbol block including one or more source symbols having the same length by using a source packet block including one or more source packets; generating a restoration symbol block generated using one or more restoration symbols by performing a forward error correction (FEC) coding operation on the source symbol block; generating an FEC source packet including the source packets and an FEC payload identifier (ID) and transmitting the FEC source packet to a lower protocol; generating an FEC restoration packet including one or more of the restoration symbols and the FEC payload ID and transmitting the FEC restoration packet to the lower protocol; and transmitting FEC configuration information including information on the source symbol block generation operation to a receiver.
