    摘要: The spectral energy characteristic of a discharge lamp is controlled by changing the density of the fill substance. The spectral characteristic can be shifted while substantially maintaining its shape by changing the density of the fill. A sulfur or selenium containing discharge lamp which is operated at a pressure of at least about 1 atmosphere contains a low ionization potential substance in the fill. Characteristics which are improved are one or more of spatial color uniformity, extinguishing characteristics, and bulb starting reliability. Particular substances which are added to the fill are alkalai metal containing substances, III B metal containing substances, and alkaline earth metal containing substances. When light is reflected back into the bulb, the light which is re-emitted is stronger in the higher wavelengths.

    摘要: A fluorescent discharge lamp has two glow mode electrodes wound around it in a helical fashion. One circuit drives the main electrodes at opposite ends of the lamp at high levels of brightness. Another circuit drives the glow mode electrodes at low levels of brightness, at about 10MHz. At intermediate levels of brightness, both the main electrodes and the glow mode electrodes are driven, the two sets of electrodes being driven for alternate on and off periods with the glow mode electrodes being on when the main electrodes are off and the glow mode electrodes being off when the main electrodes are on.

    摘要: A lighting circuit part (26) is provided for lighting a hollow cathode lamp (1), to feed a large lighting current (I1) intermittently and periodically across an anode and a cathode by a control signal from a control part (22) while feeding a boost current (Ib) across a boost electrode and the anode in a part of a period when the lighting current (I1) flows across the anode and the cathode. Absorbance including both of atomic absorption of a sample and background absorption is detected with light emitted when the large current (I1) is fed across the anode and the cathode with feeding of the boost current (Ib) while absorbance by background absorption of the sample is detected with light emitted when the large current (I1) is fed across the anode and the cathode with no feeding of the boost current (Ib) so that difference between these absorbance levels is obtained to obtain true atomic absorption corrected as to background absorption. Thus, measurement is made in a high S-N ratio with background correction.

    摘要: An electrostatic shield is provided between the induction coil and the arc tube of an electrodeless HID lamp. In one embodiment, the shield is a transparent glass cylinder coated with a thin, transparent, conductive layer of tin oxide. In another embodiment, the electrostatic shield is a conductive, transparent tin oxide coating applied to either the inner or outer surface of an outer light-transmissive jacket surrounding the arc tube. The tin oxide layer is discontinuous so as to minimize currents induced in the conductive tin oxide layer by the induction coil. The thickness of the tin oxide layer is sufficient to make it conductive and form an approximately equipotential surface, thereby shielding the arc tube and plasma discharge from intense electric fields, reducing arc tube wall damage and increasing lamp life. In addition, tin oxide functions as an infrared reflector which returns infrared radiation to the arc tube, resulting in higher efficacy. Other advantages of the electrostatic shield include: a lower color temperature, further improving efficacy; and a lower rate of free iodine formation in lamps employing metal iodide fills, further reducing wall damage.

A lead support acting as a current path is projectingly provided on a front surface of a synthetic-resin insulating base, which is a lamp holder, a front end portion of an arc tube, which is a discharge lamp body, is supported by the lead support, a rear end portion of the arc tube is fixedly supported in an engagement concave portion formed in the insulating base, and the lead support is covered with a ceramic insulating cylindrical body. In accordance with the invention, a base end portion of the insulating cylindrical body is integrated with the insulating base through insert molding.

    摘要: A first display discharge lamp has a transparent airtight container filled with a discharge gas; a positive electrode disposed in the airtight container and supported by a stem having an air tube therein; a negative electrode of an inverted configuration disposed in the transparent airtight container and surrounded by the positive electrode; a lead member integrally formed with the positive electrode, having a bent portion between a lower end of the negative electrode and the stem; and an insulating member disposed between the lower end of the negative electrode and the bent portion of the lead member. According to a second display discharge lamp, both a negative electrode and a positive electrode are of an inverted conical configuration. The former has at least an open upper end, while the latter has an open upper end and an open lower end. A lower end of the positive electrode is inserted in an interior of the negative electrode from the open upper end of the negative electrode. And, a lower/outer periphery of the positive electrode is, in a non-contact condition, opposed to an upper/inner periphery of the negative electrode.
