摘要: A dimmable ballast circuit for a compact fluorescent lamp controls the intensity of a lamp tube in response to a phase-control voltage received from a dimmer switch. The ballast circuit comprises a phase-control-to-DC converter circuit that receives the phase-control voltage, which is characterized by a duty cycle defining a target intensity of the lamp tube, and generates a DC voltage representative of the duty cycle of the phase-control voltage. Changes in the duty cycle of the phase-control voltage that are below a threshold amount are filtered out by the converter circuit, while intentional changes in the duty cycle of the phase-control voltage are reflected in changes in the target intensity level and thereby the intensity level of the lamp tube.

摘要: A controller and method for operating a controller are disclosed. In an embodiment, a method involves in a mode-setting phase, polling connection pins to sense the presence and/or magnitude of a respective relatively high impedance connected between a respective connection pin and a predetermined electrical potential, and/or other connection pins to sense the presence and/or magnitude of a respective further impedance connected between the respective connection pin and a predetermined electrical potential. The method also involves selecting an operational mode from a plurality of possible operational modes. In an operational phase, the method involves operating in the selected operational mode, including providing a respective drive signal having a relatively low output impedance from each of the first group of connection pins, and measuring a sense voltage on each of the second group of connection pins.

摘要: A high efficiency electronic ballast or driver circuit provides striation control at reduced power levels. The driver circuit includes a controller operating a half-bridge inverter to drive a resonant tank circuit. The controller provides asymmetric on-times to upper and lower switches of the half-bridge inverter when operating at low duty cycles (e.g., duty cycles of 50% or less). The resulting asymmetric output current eliminates striation in lamps driven by the ballast. In order to maintain light output (i.e., output current), the controller reduces the operating frequency of the half-bridge inverter to increase the gain and impedance of the resonant tank circuit.
