The chip portion is made from a glass member that has a composition different from that of the discharge vessel, and the glass member has a transmittance of 50% or more over a wavelength range from 170 nm to 300 nm.

    摘要: An embodiment of a system includes an RF signal source, a first electrode, a second electrode, and a cavity configured to receive an electrodeless bulb. The RF signal source is configured to generate an RF signal. The first electrode is configured to receive the RF signal and to convert the RF signal into electromagnetic energy that is radiated by the first electrode. The cavity is defined by first and second boundaries that are separated by a distance that is less than the wavelength of the RF signal so that the cavity is sub-resonant. The first electrode is physically positioned at the first boundary, and the second electrode is physically positioned at the second boundary. The first electrode, the second electrode, and the cavity form a structure that is configured to capacitively couple the electromagnetic energy into the electrodeless bulb when the electrodeless bulb is positioned within the cavity.

    摘要: A light source device capable of repressing light surges is fixed in a flatbed scanner to provide a light beam for scanning a document. The light source device includes a bent lamp with bent parts for generating the light beam and compensating for the brightness at two ends of the bent lamp; and a set of obscuring units fixed at the two bent parts to partially obscure the light of the lamp. Hence, the light source device can repress the light surge caused on two ends of the image sensor even if the bent parts at two ends of the lamp are very close to the sides of the scanning window. Therefore, the length of the light source device can be shortened and the width of the flatbed scanner using the light source device can also be narrowed.

    摘要: It is possible to prolong service life of a discharge lamp of hot-cathode type and to reduce a diameter thereof. A discharge lamp 1 is provided with an electrode 3. The electrode 3 has a heater 4 made up a coil portion 4a, and a first lead wire portion 4b and a second lead wire portion 4c that respectively extend from rear ends of this coil portion 4a and applied by an electron emission material 3a. In the electrode 3, a first lead-in wires 6a is connected to the first lead wire portion 4b and a second lead-in wires 6b is connected to the second lead wire portion 4c, so that the coil portion 4a is arranged vertically along the tube axis of the glass tube 2. The electrode 3 is also provided a sleeve 7 covering surrounding of the coil portion 4a and having openings in the faces respectively opposite to the forward end and rear end of the coil portion 4a. An open end 7a of the sleeve 7 exceeds a forward end of the coil portion 4a, thereby protecting the coil portion 4a.

    摘要: An arc tube for a discharge bulb is provided for use in a vehicular lighting system. The arc tube includes a closed glass bulb that is pinch-sealed at opposite ends. Inner ends of a first electrode and a second electrode extend into the closed glass bulbs from the ends of the closed glass bulb. The atmosphere inside the closed glass bulb includes a starting rare gas, a primary light-emitting metal halide, and optionally, a buffer metal halide. The distance between the inner ends of the electrodes is between about 0.3 and 1.8, and the inner diameter of the closed glass bulb at a middle portion is between about 1.5 mm and 2.7 mm. Accordingly, a stable discharge is produced using between 15 W and 30 W of power.
