摘要： The present invention provides an improved packaging method and apparatus. An item enclosed in the V-Pack is shipped or stored in such a way that there is no extra space inside. This is accomplished by specially formulated foam included in each box. In this manner, internal damage to goods is rendered impossible. In addition, an extra layer of foam protects the item or items from damage by external elements, such as moisture and extreme cold or warm temperatures. Any excess air inside the chamber where the items are located, is removed by an external pump, creating a vacuum effect, which provides for the item's safe storage conditions. To facilitate the vacuum action, a valve is provided in two sections on the packaging box.

摘要： A transfer and dispensing apparatus is disclosed for the conveying and separation of packaging material, cushions or pillows when needed by the operator. When a packer working over a conveyor receives a box that requires void fill, an operating switch such as a foot pedal is depressed to dispense pillows from the apparatus and into the box in a connected strip. When the operating switch is released, the apparatus stops dispensing pillows, separates the continuous strip of pillows along a transverse perforation in the strip, and ejects the end of the separated segment. The packer can then complete packing the box by placing the severed end of the pillows into the box, advance to the next box, and repeat the process. The transfer and dispensing apparatus may be positioned in any convenient location including adjacent to, above or attached to the inflation device.

摘要： A packaging method includes the step of comparing a total package weight to a freight rate schedule and thereby determining a normal freight rate. The total package weight includes the weight of a container (22), an article (24) to be shipped and a normal amount of dunnage. If predetermined criteria are met, the method also includes the step of reducing the amount of dunnage dispensed below that of the normal amount of dunnage such that the total package weight falls within a freight rate that is less than the normal freight rate. The predetermined criteria include one or more of a predetermined percentage above a change in freight rate, a predetermined weight above a threshold weight for an increase in freight weight, and dunnage requirements including void-volume, degree of fill for the void-volume, type of article, weight of article and type of dunnage.
