Abstract: Infusion systems, infusion devices, and related operating methods are provided. An exemplary infusion device includes a motor operable to deliver fluid to a body of a user, a first control module to enable input power for the motor and provide a dosage command for operating the motor, and a second control module coupled to the first control module to receive the dosage command and operate the motor using at least a portion of the input power based at least in part on the dosage command. One of the first control module and the second control module detects an anomalous condition, and in response, disables the input power to the motor, stores diagnostic information for the anomalous condition in its internal memory, and automatically resets thereafter.

Abstract: Methods, computer systems, and computer-readable storage media for monitoring and managing patient discomfort are provided. Inputs are received from ambient sensors located in a clinical care room. Based on a determination that the inputs exceed predetermined thresholds, it is determined that the patient is experiencing discomfort. Various measures are automatically initiated to help diminish the patient's discomfort. The measures include aromatherapy, visual relaxation therapy, audio therapy, and automatic administration of pain relief.

Abstract: An intravenous (IV) set system comprising a primary IV set defining a primary flow line of the IV set system. The primary flow line can include multiple access points along its length and feeds to a merging fluid pathway proximate to the distal terminus of the primary IV set. At least one secondary IV set with corresponding flow lines can be separably joined to the primary IV set to cause the secondary flow lines to be in fluid communication with the primary flow line. At least one of the IV sets can have a unique set of uniform marking indicia to facilitate rapid identification of the IV sets from other IV sets within the IV set system. Such marked and identified primary and/or secondary IV sets can be allocated to specific medical functions and/or can be for use by specific medical personnel to thereby minimize risk of error in administration of an IV to a patient. The IV set system can further comprise a merging fluid pathway about a primary IV set.

Abstract: A disposable fluid flow assembly for operation in connection with a fluid pump configured to provide a flow of fluid to the disposable fluid flow assembly is provided. The disposable fluid flow assembly includes an elongated flexible tube, a needle hub connected with the flexible tube, a pressure sensor for sensing fluid pressure, and an identification circuit embedded connected with the pressure sensor. The identification is configured to provide a plurality of signals to the central controller of the fluid pump when the disposable needle assembly is connected with the fluid pump. The plurality of signals may include various signals, such as a signal to identify physical characteristics of the assembly, a signal to ensure that the assembly is authentic, a signal to ensure that the disposable assembly is not re-used, and/or a signal to ensure that the pressure signal is connected and operating properly.

Abstract: A respiratory apparatus for delivering breathable gas to a patient includes a flow generator that generates a supply of pressurised gas to be delivered to the patient; a humidifier for vaporising water and delivering water vapor to humidify the gas; a gas flow path leading from the flow generator to the humidifier and from the humidifier to a patient interface; and a heater in thermal contact with the gas and/or the water, wherein the heater comprises an elongate heating filament in the form of a tape. A humidifier for respiratory apparatus includes a first respiratory gas passage for receiving gas from a flow generator, a humidifier chamber, a second respiratory gas passage for delivering humidified gas to a patient interface, and a heater in thermal contact with the gas and/or the water, wherein the heater comprises an elongate heating filament extending along at least part of both said first and second respiratory gas passages. A conduit for use in a respiratory apparatus for delivering breathable gas to a patient includes a tube; a helical rib on an outer surface of the tube; and a plurality of wires supported by the helical rib in contact with the outer surface of the tube.
