Abstract: Controlled-environment communication systems are increasingly using voice over internet protocol (VoIP) to serve their users. VoIP allows voice to be sent in packetized form, where audio is encoded using one of several codecs. Because of bandwidth constraints, particularly during peak call times, codecs may be used which sacrifice audio quality for bandwidth efficiency. As a result, several features of communication systems, including critical security features. The present disclosure provides details for systems and methods by which a controlled-environment communication system may shift between codecs to perform security-related features or to alleviate bandwidth considerations. This involves the special formatting of control-signaling messages, including session initiation protocol (SIP) and session description protocol (SDP) messaging.

Abstract: Video-assisted presence detection is used to enhance a user experience in telephony communications. Image data, video data, or both, from a camera are used to determine whether a user is present at their device before a call is transferred to him or her. The video-assisted presence detection can be implemented based on a privacy setting. For example, one implementation allows a system to have partial access to the camera to perform a scan to detect that there is a human present without capturing facial information, and without identifying that person. Another implementation allows the system to have partial access to the camera to scan the a face of a user, but not have access to the video feed of the camera. Another implementation allows the system to have full access to the camera.

Each of the separate audio streams contains portions of the communication attributable to a respective participant. Furthermore, the method includes outputting the separate audio streams to a storage system.

Authentication of the resident operating the device may be verified as associated with an address identifier of the device and it may be confirmed that an inbound calling non-resident is associated with the address identifier. A notification of the inbound call may then be sent to the device, and the same or other data associated with the resident operating the device may be received, via the device. Authentication of the resident operating the device as a resident as associated with an address identifier may be re-verified using the same or other data and the call connected as a result of the verification, confirmation and/or re-verification.

Abstract: A system and method for providing agent guidance is provided. Speech communicated by a user to an agent is monitored during a call within a call center. Traits of the user are identified during the call based on the speech of the user. A determination is made as to how likely the user is to accept an offer provided by the agent based on the user traits. The user is classified as belonging to one of a plurality of stages of persuasion based on the likelihood determination, and guidance is provided to the agent based on classification of the user in at least one of the classes. The offer is provided to the user based on the guidance.
