摘要: An arrangement in a fibre process, which arrangement is equipped with control and pulling means for directing fibre along a desired run and with means equipped with gripping surfaces (7, 8) for gripping the fibre or the like (1), between which gripping surfaces (7, 8), the fibre or the like (1) is arranged to run without touching the gripping surfaces before the gripping step, in which the gripping surfaces (7, 8) are arranged to press against each other. On both sides of the fibre-gripping surfaces (7, 8), control means (10, 11, 12, 13) are arranged to prevent a random contact between the fibre or the like (1) and the gripping surfaces (7, 8).

摘要: A GigaMatrix plate for holding a large number of small-volume fluid samples includes a base for supporting a plurality of substantially parallel, elongated capillary tubes. Each tube defines a lumen that extends through the base, and each lumen has an aspect ratio greater than about 5:1. Dimensionally, each lumen has an inner diameter that is less than approximately five hundred microns and it has a length greater than about five millimeters. Further, each tube acts to optically distinguish light that is directed toward it from the sample whenever the sample fluoresces inside the tube lumen. Also, however, light from the sample that is directed axially through the tube is emitted therefrom for optical detection of the tube and the sample therein.

摘要: A full color fiber plasma display device includes two glass plates sandwiched around a top fiber array and a bottom fiber array. The top and bottom fiber arrays are substantially orthogonal and define a structure of the display, with the top fiber array disposed on a side facing towards a viewer. The top fiber array includes identical top fibers, each top fiber including two sustain electrodes located near a surface of the top fiber on a side facing away from the viewer. A thin dielectric layer separates the sustain electrodes from the plasma channel formed by a bottom fiber array. The bottom fiber array includes three alternating bottom fibers, each bottom fiber including a pair of barrier ribs that define the plasma channel, an address electrode located near a surface of the plasma channel, and a phosphor layer coating on the surface of the plasma channel, wherein a luminescent color of the phosphor coating in each of the three alternating bottom fibers represents a subpixel color of the plasma display. Each subpixel is formed by a crossing of one top fiber and one corresponding bottom fiber. The plasma display is hermetically sealed with a glass frit. The sustain and address electrodes are brought out through the glass frit for direct connection to a drive control system.

摘要: A process for frit-sealing together a panel of a fiber-based information display includes assembling the panel and sealing, after the step of assembling, the panel by forcing a glass frit to flow between the two glass plates that comprise the panel using narrow strips of glass. The glass frit-seals the top and bottom glass plates together and covers the wire electrodes at the end of the fibers to dielectrically isolate them from each other. The process of assembling and frit-sealing the panel is particularly suitable for use in an information display, such as plasma emissive displays, plasma addressed liquid crystal displays, and field emissive displays

摘要: A method is provided for cutting a glass duct, whereby the glass duct can be cut off completely straight. In this method, the coating layer is first cut through all round at the axial location of the fiber where the fiber is to be notched before the notching and subsequent breaking off of the glass duct. To enable the use of this method for glass ducts of varying diameters, the glass duct can be retained in a fixed position during cutting, while a cutting member, as well as a counterpressure surface for the cutting member, are moved all round the glass duct. Because glass ducts of a relatively small diameter are pressed further sidewards by the cutting member than glass ducts of greater diameter, this method effectively limits this sidewards displacement to prevent the glass ducts from breaking in an unintended manner.

摘要: The present invention is directed towards an apparatus for guiding continuous materials. In one embodiment of the invention, the apparatus comprises first and second conveyors, each comprising a continuous conveyor belt carried by a set of pulleys including a drive pulley and an idler pulley. The conveyor belts have opposing inner surfaces that are oriented to travel substantially parallel to one another to sandwich continuous materials therebetween. The ratio of the diameters of the idler pulleys to the drive pulleys is greater than about 8:1. In another embodiment of the invention, a chopper is provided. The chopper comprises a cutting roll and a cot member defining a nip region therebetween. The cutting roll has an axis of rotation that is aligned substantially parallel to an axis of rotation of a cot member. The small turning radii permit the conveyor belts to extend within the nip region.

摘要: A process for the fabrication of a fiber-based information display using a lost glass process includes drawing a fiber from a preform composed of at least two different glass compositions, where one of the compositions is a dissolvable glass, and removing the dissolvable glass with a liquid solution to change a cross-sectional shape of the drawn fiber. The lost glass process can be used to create an exposed wire electrode, where the drawn fiber contains a wire electrode that is exposed when the dissolvable glass is removed. The lost glass process can also be used to hold the shape and a tight tolerance of the drawn fiber. The cross-sectional shape of the fibers created using the lost glass process are suitable for use in an information display, such as plasma emissive displays, plasma addressed liquid crystal displays, and field emissive displays.

摘要: Fiberglass filament waste is cut into segments with an apparatus comprised of a feeder that includes a cutting roller having a rotatable shaft with a plurality of spaced circular cutting blades mounted thereon, and a waste feeder having a discharge opening adjacent said roller for conveying said waste into engagement with the periphery of the blades, the feeder including at first and second spaced surfaces extending from a waste inlet opening to a waste discharge opening, at least one of the surfaces being pivotal adjacent the waste inlet opening to expand the discharge opening under pressure from waste being conveyed between the surfaces. At least one of the surfaces, which may be a surface of a conveyor belt, is moveable toward the discharge opening, while the other surface may be stationary, or move toward the discharge opening. In one embodiment, the lower surface moves toward the discharge opening, while the upper surface moves away from the discharge opening to equalize the volume of waste being fed. A slotted stationary plate supports the waste during cutting.
