摘要: A method of processing an optical fiber includes introducing fiber that has passed a pulling mechanism to a shredding unit with an introducing unit. The introducing unit includes a movable unit including a notch configured to fit with a capstan roller included in the pulling mechanism, a sliding mechanism that attaches the movable unit slidably with respect to a main body of the introducing unit, and a restoring mechanism configured to restore the movable unit to an initial position when the movable unit has slid. The method includes shredding the fiber introduced by the introducing unit into fiber pieces, and suctioning, carrying, and collecting the fiber pieces. A method of drawing an optical fiber includes drawing the fiber while controlling a drawing speed, adjusting a diameter of the fiber to a diameter passable through a die, and arranging the die around the fiber having the diameter passable through the die.

摘要: Apparatus, system and methods of using the apparatus and system to manipulate fiber(s) into a chopper, winder or other fiber(s) processing equipment. By using the apparatus the operator(s) are freed up for pressing duties that will increase productivity and also create a safer workplace. The apparatus supports and constrains slowly or rapidly running fiber(s) and moves through a sequence of movements that reposition the fiber(s) into a path that places the running fiber(s) in the proper location for processing in the chopper, winder or other processing equipment and also places the running fiber(s) into a desired groove or valley on a separator roll or guide.

摘要: Method and apparatus for producing chopped rock fibers, such as basalt. A furnace is preferably used to melt rocks, and a drawing assembly is used to draw the melted rocks into fibers. Prior to chopping the fibers to selected lengths, a preconditioning assembly operates to induce mechanical defects in the drawn fibers. Preferably, the preconditioning assembly comprises a shock cooling stage and/or a fiber twisting stage. The shock cooling stage significantly reduces the temperature of the drawn fibers, such as by the application of a stream of fluid such as water or steam to the drawn fibers. Additionally or alternatively, the shock cooling stage preferably comprises a liquid coolant bath through which the drawn fibers pass. The fiber twisting stage preferably utilizes a twisting assembly such as a roller to induce a torsional force upon the drawn fibers to continuously twist the fibers about an axis thereof.

摘要: The present invention is directed towards an apparatus for guiding continuous materials. In one embodiment of the invention, the apparatus comprises first and second conveyors, each comprising a continuous conveyor belt carried by a set of pulleys including a drive pulley and an idler pulley. The conveyor belts have opposing inner surfaces that are oriented to travel substantially parallel to one another to sandwich continuous materials therebetween. The ratio of the diameters of the idler pulleys to the drive pulleys is greater than about 8:1. In another embodiment of the invention, a chopper is provided. The chopper comprises a cutting roll and a cot member defining a nip region therebetween. The cutting roll has an axis of rotation that is aligned substantially parallel to an axis of rotation of a cot member. The small turning radii permit the conveyor belts to extend within the nip region.
