    摘要: Provided is an optical fiber having W-shaped refractive-index distribution and in which a micro-bend loss in an actual usage waveband is reduced. The optical fiber includes a core, inner cladding that surrounds the core and has a refractive index smaller than a refractive index of the core, and outer cladding that surrounds the inner cladding and has a refractive index smaller than the refractive index of the core and larger than the refractive index of the inner cladding. When a coupling coefficient between a fundamental mode and a cladding mode is denoted by C01-CL, a coupling coefficient between the fundamental mode and a higher-order mode is denoted by C01-11, and a coupling coefficient between the higher-order mode and the cladding mode is denoted by C11-CL, Ctotal defined as Ctotal=C01-CL+C01-11C11-CL has a minimum value at a wavelength ranging between 1520 nm and 1630 nm.

    摘要: An apparatus and a method for producing a depressed-cladding core rod of an ultra-low water peak optical fiber, the apparatus including a core rod component, an inner cladding casing component, a high temperature heat source, chucks, a rotary joint, an external gas pipe, and a pressure controlling pipe. The core rod component is produced by fusing and splicing a core layer rod and a first hollow shaft together. The inner cladding casing covers the outside of the core layer rod. The inner cladding casing component is produced by fusing and splicing an inner cladding casing and a second hollow shaft together. These two hollow shafts are clamped in two chucks of a glass lathe. A high temperature heat source is arranged outside the inner cladding casing.

    摘要: A polarization-maintaining optical fiber of the invention includes: a core; a pair of stress-applying parts disposed at both sides of the core at a distance; and a cladding coat that surrounds the core and the paired stress-applying parts. The maximum refractive index of the core is greater than each of maximum refractive indexes of a first cladding coat, a second cladding coat, and a third cladding coat. The maximum refractive index of the second cladding coat is lower than each of maximum refractive indexes of the first cladding coat and the third cladding coat. The coefficient of thermal expansion of each of stress-applying parts is greater than a coefficient of thermal expansion of the cladding coat. Each stress-applying part is provided to cut the second cladding coat at a position in a circumferential direction.
