Abstract: An occlusion catheter system includes a proximal hub having an inflation connection port and an inflation pathway. An inflation catheter member is connected to the proximal hub and has an inflation lumen. A stiffener member defines a longitudinal axis. The proximal end of the stiffener member is connected to the proximal hub. The stiffener member extends through a portion of the inflation lumen. An occlusion balloon has a proximal balloon end and a distal balloon end. A distal catheter member is positioned substantially on the longitudinal axis and is connected to the distal end of the stiffener member. An atraumatic tip is positioned on a distal end of the distal catheter member. The atraumatic tip has a substantially circular profile in a relaxed configuration. A pressure sensor is connected to the occlusion catheter system distally relative to the occlusion balloon and is connected to a processor by electrical wiring.

Abstract: The subject guide catheter extension/pre-dilatation system includes an outer delivery sheath, an inner member extending within the sheath, and a mechanism for engagement/disengagement of the inner member to/from the sheath. The inner member is configured with a tapered distal tip having a delivery micro-catheter and a pre-dilatation balloon member attached to the tapered distal tip in proximity to the micro-catheter. The outer delivery sheath and the inner member are modified for different engagement/disengagement mechanisms operation. The delivery micro-catheter provides for an improved crossability for the balloon member to the treatment site in an atraumatic, expedited and convenient fashion. During the cardiac procedure, a guidewire and a guide catheter are advanced to the vicinity of the treatment site within a blood vessel. Subsequent thereto, the inner member and outer delivery sheath, in their engaged configuration, are advanced along the guidewire inside the guide catheter towards the site of treatment. Once at the treatment site, the balloon member is inflated for pre-dilatation treatment. Subsequently, the inner member is disengaged and retracted from the outer delivery sheath, and a stent is delivered to the treatment site inside the outer delivery sheath.

Abstract: A catheter having a catheter shaft and a tip. The catheter shaft includes an inner layer, a first reinforcing layer disposed around an outer periphery of the inner layer, an intermediate layer, a second reinforcing layer disposed around an outer periphery of the intermediate layer, and an outer layer that covers the second reinforcing layer. The tip includes a proximal end portion that extends in an axial direction of the catheter and is joined to at least the intermediate layer and the outer layer, between the first reinforcing layer and the second reinforcing layer. The proximal end portion increases the joining strength between the intermediate layer and the tip and the joining strength between the outer layer and the tip. As a result, it is possible to prevent the tip from easily detaching from the catheter shaft.

Abstract: A catheter tube for insertion into a body of a patient is disclosed. The catheter tube includes a distal portion that remains stable during fluid infusion into the patient, thus reducing or eliminating whipping of the catheter distal tip, even during power injection. In one embodiment, the catheter tube defines at least one lumen and is formed from a tube material that defines a proximal portion and a distal portion of the catheter tube. The catheter tube is configured such that the arithmetic product of an elastic modulus and an area moment of inertia for at least a portion of the distal portion of the catheter tube defined by the catheter tube material is greater relative the arithmetic product of an elastic modulus and an area moment of inertia for at least a portion of the proximal portion of the catheter tube.

Abstract: A catheter tip having a spring element that imparts longitudinal flexibility, pushability and radial rigidity to the catheter tip, thereby improving deliverability, is provided. The spring element also provides radial support to the distal edge of the catheter tip. The spring element may taper distally, but may have a substantially constant inner luminal diameter. The spring element may be partially covered or embedded, leaving its distal end exposed. The spring element may also include spaced coils in a proximal region. The apparatus may be used with any interventional catheter system, but is particularly suitable for use with balloon-expandable stent systems and balloon-angioplasty systems, where flexibility of the catheter tip and minimal flaring of the distal edge of the catheter tip is desirable.

Abstract: The present invention extends to a design of a needle hub and an actuator of a catheter assembly that allows the needle hub and actuator to interlock within the catheter hub. This interlocking allows the needle hub to be inserted into the catheter hub thereby increasing the rigidity of the catheter assembly. The interlocking can be accomplished by forming channels in the proximal end of the actuator and corresponding protrusions from the distal end of the needle hub. In some embodiments, the channels and protrusions can be formed at the top and bottom of the catheter hub and needle hub respectively to thereby increase the vertical rigidity of the catheter assembly. The increase in vertical rigidity can prevent flexing of the catheter hub with respect to the needle shield when a downward force is applied to the catheter assembly such as is common during insertion of the needle.
