The invention is directed to compositions containing polyamidoamine-epihalohydrin resins (PAE resins) of low molecular weight and a soy protein or lignin in which the weight ratio of protein or lignin to PAE is 100:0.1 to 0.1:100. The invention is also directed to the use of the compositions as adhesives for binding wood materials. The lower adhesive viscosity provides better handling properties, as well as allowing for less water in the adhesive formulation. Processes for rendering a polyamine-epihalohydrin resin storage stable, including processes that prepare a storage stable resin and/or processes that treat resins. A composition containing a polyamine-epihalohydrin resin which includes CPD-forming species can be treated with at least one agent under conditions to at least one of inhibit, reduce and remove the CPD-forming species to obtain a reduced CPD-forming resin so that a composition containing the reduced CPD-forming polyamine-epihalohydrin resin when stored for 2 weeks at 50° C., and a pH of about 2.5 to 3.5 contains less than about 250 ppm dry basis of CPD. The invention is also directed to a gelation storage stable reduced CPD-forming resin so that a composition containing the reduced CPD-forming polyamine-epihalohydrin resin, when stored at pH 1 for 24 hours at 50° C. and measured at 24 hours, produces less than about 1000 ppm dry basis of CPD. A paper product containing the storage stable polyaminopolyamide-epihalohydrin resin, when corrected for adding at about a 1 wt % addition level of the polyaminopolyamide-epihalohydrin resin, contains less than about 250 ppb of CPD. Moreover, a resin can be prepared starting from a prepolymer having a low acid number or low concentration of acid end groups. The invention is also directed to papers containing the resins.

A fluid flow switching device for a drill string comprises a tubular member having a port (4). A sleeve member is slidable within the tubular member between a first position in which a port (3) thereof is in alignment with the port (4) and a second position in which the port (4) is obstructed. A plurality of fingers are connected to the sleeve member (2). Each finger defines one segment of a closure member that is closed when the fingers are pivoted inwardly and open when the fingers are pivoted outwardly. An operating surface is positioned within the tubular member, and the fingers are axially slidable thereover as the sleeve member is moved between the first and second positions to close and open the segmented closure.

A cleaning device for a well bore which is adapted to be connected to a drill string for insertion into the well bore and through which cleaning fluid is pumped, comprises an elongated outer sleeve having an axially extending through bore therein and at least one port in the side wall of the outer sleeve, each of which ports is axially spaced along the outer sleeve. An elongated inner sleeve having, an axially extending through bore therein is coaxial with and axially slidable within the outer sleeve. An annular seating collar is located within the through bore in the inner sleeve and at least one port is provided in the side of the inner sleeve. The ports are axially spaced along the inner sleeve. Pressure sensitive stops means serve to retain the inner sleeve in place within the outer sleeve at each of a plurality of predetermined axially spaced positions in turn. Means for obstructing the annular seating collar and each of the ports in the inner sleeve are dropped into the cleaning device one at a time such that, when cleaning fluid is first connected to the cleaning device it passes through the inner sleeve and with that insertion of the first and each subsequent obstructing means the inner sleeve is caused to move axially downwards relative to the inner sleeve onto each pressure sensitive stop means in turn and in each of these positions a port in the inner sleeve is radially aligned with a port in the outer sleeve.
